Whoops. Somebody already answered what I was going to say.

They didn't pay her any royalties when they released "I Dreamed A Dream" as a single so she was upset about that. She also has it in her contract that she was to be paid equal to the highest paid cast member and when she found out someone was getting paid more than her she was furious. She said there was bad communication between the producers and her and that her only power was to miss performance.

At one point, Andrew Lloyd Webber was considering Patti for a role in the movie version of Phantom of the Opera before one of his assistants reminded him that Patti hated his guts.

Carlotta, if I'm not mistaken.

Yes Carlotta is correct. She mentions this in her book. While Patti would be a good Carlotta acting wise but i dont think she has the soprano extension to do it LOL

Didn't stop them from casting the probably less capable Minnie Driver in the film!

Patti wouldn't have let them dub her like they did with Minnie. And Patti really doesn't have the voice for an opera diva. But I agree, Minnie Driver was a really bad choice. There were so many other really great choices. I'm surprised they didn't offer it to Sarah Brightman.

Taking a smiling picture with someone who can be beneficial for your career doesn't say anything about the truth.

I think the Patti as Carlotta story went like

ALW: Why not approach Patti LuPone?

Assistant: She hates your guts.

ALW: Ah yes, there is THAT.

That was the first role I thought people were referring to.

This happened. And it's everything.

I like how everyone has acknowledged 'I Dreamed a Dream' and 'On My Own' are basically the same and combined them for one mega-medley. It's the power ranger of Brit-musical theater ballads!

So powerful! And the music for "On My Own" was originally Fantine's song in the French concept version.

I wish Rachelle Ann Go would just sing something as written for once.

And how amazing is it that a 66 year old woman can still sing like that, and sound just as good, if not better than in 1985.

1) It's a concert performance at the end of the show. She was directed to sing it that way

2) She sings it "as written" during the actual performance. You just happen to hear or see recordings of her at gala events where she is told to amp it up

3) Then the same can be said for Colm Wilkinson changing "Bring Him Home" at the same gala performance
