Ms LuPone has a tendency to attack anyone better looking and more talented than she is, so basically every single human being on earth and most species of animals is a target.
An obnoxious tweet desperate for attention. So LuPone may have said something about someone from a show they worked on "that can't POSSIBLY be repeated". Meanwhile, people here talk trash about LuPone pretty much every day. So what? It's nothing more than a twerp singing "I know something you don't know" and skipping away. I met Patti a few times as well. And she said stuff to me about a certain Tony-winning Broadway producer she and I both worked with. She took no prisoners and I couldn't possibly tell you what it was. OOOHHHH....BUUUUURRRRNN!!!
As for the show, I loved everything about it including Scott's performance. She handled the part beautifully when I saw it.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
Reading between the lines of the tweet (as I'm wont to do), I think the key phrases are "priceless dish" and "it was a stunner".
This leads my Sherlock-ing to deduce that Patti wasn't trashing Sherie through her own personal opinion, but with an unbelievably juicy anecdote of verifiable fact witnessed by more than just she that occurred during the run of the ill-fated show.
I love LuPone and Scott, so this doesn't alter my opinion of either of them - I just live for delicious Broadway dish as if it were my mother's milk. I love that cast recording - especially Scott's ISLAND and LuPone's INVISIBLE.
I also asked about this on the West End board in Seth's own thread titled "Come See Patti and Me". Surely someone who was in attendance will answer soon. I am literally squirming with anticipation.
And if no one answers, well, Seth has to return to his homeland sometime. And I hope all my brethren in the Tri-State area will descend upon him with their steely knives until the bitter, gorgeous truth is whittled out of him.
I am serious. I haven't heard anyone trashing Lupone on here in a long time. There have been some critiques and disagreements on her but no one has "trashed" her.
"That same reporter tweeted that they found out Patti was "sounded out" to replace Elena Roger in Evita"
Okay we all know this isn't true. Patti could barely handle the show 30 years ago. She sure couldn't do it now.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
"ACTUALLY... she sang "Argentina" better than she did 30 years ago in MANDY/PATTI on Broadway."
And if that's all she had to do in the show I would say she was perfect. But her dancing has always been clunky and she wouldn't make it through Buenos Aires without collapsing. And forget Waltz for Eva and Che. Whoever was playing Che would have to have strong arms because he would be hauling LuPone around like a rag doll.

"Is the cast album good enough representation, Curtain? "
That depends on who you ask. It was recorded between L.A. and Broadway, and LuPone herself has said that she struggled with the role and was definitely not singing it properly in Los Angeles. Many accounts say that her performance had grown remarkably by the time she finished her run in the show in New York.
The cast album of EVITA is a pretty good representation but seeing and hearing her live before she became a monster was absolutely thrilling. One night she attacked SO LAUREN BACALL ME! right at someone in the audience and blew the rafters off the place. And yes it WAS Lauren she was belting at!
Having seen her concert last night, I can confirm that after singing Eva & Magaldi/Eva Beware of the City/Buenos Aires & Rainbow High, she can definitely still sing the score!
Not to forget, of course, that she sang Sunset Boulevard for the first time in twenty years!
I'm glad she hasn't done that. We don't need another Ted Neely situation on our hands. I'm willing to ignore the age of an actor when they are playing a historical figure only to a certain extent. LuPone looks good for her age, but you're not going to convince me that she can still play a character that ranges from her late teens to the ripe old age of 33 through the course of the show.
As much as the Patti obsessed fangirl in me would want to see Patti play Evita, it's better that it didn't happen.
However, I would love to see her do it in a benefit concert of some kind. THAT could be amazing. Semi staged except Rainbow High would be done exactly as it was with the dressers throwing the fur over her shoulders on "DRESSED UP somewhere to go.."
