I'm also sad they took the quotes/nominations off of the face doors.
I agree, the signage situation for this show really has me puzzled.
*It took them forever to get the pull quotes up. I realize that they had a lot to pick from, but it took a lot longer than most shows to get ANY up.
*Then the big Times Square sign comes down right after the Tonys.
*And then it was WELL over a week ~ close to two really ~ before the Tony winner signs went up. The day after the Tonys, the nomination signs went down and pull quotes went up ~ while all the other Tony winning shows were putting up their WINNER signs. And yeah, the quotes on the doors were a nice touch as well (though I guess if they're going to temporarily replace Aaron's face with Kyle's that could be why... Given how long it's taken with everything else, that change could still come.)
I mean, the show is doing well in terms of numbers, but "silly little things" like signs really can make a difference. ESPECIALLY the Times Square sign. I think next to normal is just about the only Broadway musical that has NO presence in Times Square, which makes me sad.
not even being sarcastic or anything...i think the show should hire some people on here for advertising. i thought the individual quotes on the faces looked really great. i hope they put something like that back up. maybe they wanted to change some after the tonys due to the awards it got??
double post
There is another billboard in it's place now though...is there not?
Not advertising a show. It's the "text love or hate" thingy about the "new" Broadway area. There IS not next to normal signage in Times Square itself.
Right. So is that temporary or do you think it's permanent? It could just be a placeholder until they get a new N2N poster up. I doubt it though...
It looks like the city claimed rights to the sign at least for now. Who knows. It makes me sick that Billy Elliot has TWO huge signs up in Times Square and next to normal has none. (Ok, not literally sick, but I don't like it.)
ok, yea it makes total sense now. their either making up a new marketing scheme for the show(since they're taking everything down)or the new posters got lost in the mail lol. billy elliot doesn't need a single billboard to sell out, what the hell man lol.
I was wondering for the rush if I could get there at about 715 this Friday and still get tickets. I will also be going with two other people. Also, if you get a wristband, does that mean you are guaranteed tickets? Sorry, I've never seen the show and I am dying and just want to make sure I see it.
I'm not sure if 7:15 would work...especially for 6 tickets (I assume since there will be three of you). It probably depends on what these 'altarholics" do.
The wristband does not guarantee a rush ticket, and they state that when giving them out. They do not ask how many tickets you're getting when they give them to you. It merely keeps you in the right order in line.
Oh no, we are not getting 6 tickets. Just 3. Would it be okay if I got there around 645?
bump
My guess is yes. But then again, I haven't attempted to rush since the "altarholics" reportedly jumped on the bandwagon.
I just saw Next to Normal for the first time and I don't think I've cryed so much at a show before. It really hit close to home for me. I was a wreck the entire time, but I loved it. I rushed it today and I got there at about 8:50 and was the 23rd person in line. I got box seats which were perfect. I had no trouble seeing the stage, except a couple of times when people made entrances far stage right.

Caught the mat. yesterday and absolutely loved it. I thought the whole cast was phenomenal especially Alice who's performance absolutely moved me. After the show everyone but Jenn came out of the stage door. I'm definitely returning to see this one when Aaron returns in Sept.
I FINALLY saw the show at the Booth tonight; after years of following its development, it was thrilling to see the final product. Tim Young was on for Gabe, he was fine. Jenn only did Act 1, which was kind of a bummer because her performance has improved so much since I last saw the show at Second Stage, but her understudy was fine. Alice was more incredible than ever, I missed Brian at moments but overall really liked J. Robert Spencer -- the end cut me like a knife -- and other than a few little quibbles, I'm really pleased with most of the changes. Much success to this little powerhouse of a show.
After seeing the performance on the Tony Awards and reading the praise on this thread, I've become really interested in this show. I've listened to a few songs and enjoyed them. I'm convinced I will have to see this show ASAP.
Jenn apparently hit her head during the show tonight and couldn't finish Act 2. I really hope she's okay.

I hope she's okay. They didn't announce the switch; don't they have to?

I know Tim was on during the evening show, but does anyone know if he went on for the mat?
I think he did. I bought my tickets around 4:30, so, just as the matinee was getting out and the call board said he was on for Gabe.

Between Billy Mays and Natasha Richardson, I certainly hope she goes to the hospital! (Not trying to sound like a pessimist, but it certainly makes you think!)
It still amazes me, that no matter how often I hear about mid show replacements, I've NEVER experienced it. (That's certainly NOT a complaint.)
^ me neither! The only time I've come close was when the actress playing Kate Monster on the Ave. Q tour got a nosebleed during the mix tape song. At first she covered it so well we thought it might be part of the show (having never seen it) but then they brought the house lights up. In any case, best wishes to Jen, hope she's okay!
