Sweetestsiren.... that is exactly what i was gonna say... she looks sharp and read to kick ass.... also since she looks so sharp and definitive she looks physically like an outcast from the rest of the cast
YES! Her facial structure is just so perfect for the role. The sharp chin, nose, and jaw-line only accent the "stinging" power of Elphaba. And I think she's the perfect age. All the photos we see above are from Act II -- where Elphaba is supposed to look older and has a DIFFERENT make-up design from Act I.
I think she looks absolutely phenomenal. I'm beginning to find a pattern that I find women more attractive in green than any other color! Haha
I actually disagree about her face. I mean, I love Julia as much as everyone else, but when I look at her as Elphie I think she looks pretentious and haughty which is not how I think Elphaba should look at all. I know that's just me...but just throwing that out there.
Is the time span really that great in the stage version? Artistically, it makes sense (and would follow the book's chronology), but it doesn't seem like act two really picks up almost twenty years after the first.

No, not the first scene in Act Two, but throughout the second act it is obvious that some time goes by between scenes, so that age range could be accurate.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE

Really? I never saw it that when in the form it was presented. I'm not arguing with your or trying to slam the show, mind you. I just never saw it spanning that wide.
Actually, the only big jump in time could be between "Thank Goodness" and "The Wicked Witch of the East." Even so, I'd say that the say even saying a year's time passed there would be a stretch.
Edited because I orignally said "between 'Thank Goodness' and 'Wonderful,'" which wouldn't wash at all, as Elphaba is on her way to the Emerald City after leaving her sister.

I'm not complaining because I really could care less, but she does look exremely old (at least in those pictures; especially the one with Sebastian Arcelus). It seems that her look would be distracting forsure during Act 1 but also in comparison to Sebastian in Act 2.
She also looks kind of sickly (green make-up aside).
I may as well mention that I'm not typically a great fan of Julia's, but I do like her look for this role and she'll certainly be firey enough.
I was typing a post similiar to this but decided against posting it. I always come across as such a damper on everything, but as usual, SS puts it wonderfully.
Maybe I need to listen to Julia in more than Chess, but I've listened to that concert at least a hundred times by now and I've never grown to like her voice. Since so many people enjoy her voice, so it's obviously just a personal quirk of mine. I've never really thought she was attractive, either, but she looks wonderful as Elphaba. I'm not a Wicked fan by any means, and maybe the character isn't supposed to look dark and mysterious like she does, but I think she pulls off the look very well.
I think she looks wonderful in the first and last photos, but agree that the middle photo makes her seem a bit old. I like how she looks somewhat mystical and mysterious.
