Just watched the performance. WONDERFUL. I definitely think this is the number (including the Corner of the Sky intro) they should do at the Tony's. Would be a bummer if Matthew didn't get to performa at all... The whole cast just radiates such a great energy, it was actually pretty successful even without the curtain drop/all their props! Very impressed :) also that they can hit all those notes so early...haha.
fantastic performance!! hopefully we'll see a few more TV appearances before the Tonys!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I want to hear about our Thigh God, Orion Griffiths. : )
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
If the people those chose to watch the performance in the studio were just random then it kinda pisses me off because they looked pretty disinterested.
"Pardon my prior Mcfee slip. I know how to spell her name. I just don't know how to type it." -Talulah
Clyde, The people inside the studio were probably the ones with tickets. You contact GMA and get tickets for inside. I did it once and it was kind of boring. But you are right, the people inside really looked like they weren't that interested.
It seemed very canned-the live energy wasn't translating. The mummified studio audience didn't help matters.
"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
Both on Letterman and GMA the camera angles did the cast no favors. They missed some key acrobatic moments and focused in strange places at times. I would hope that for the Tonys the crew gets more time to choose and rehearse good angles. The teasers for Pippin are very well captured - so its certainly possible.
I was there for Matthew's warm up at 6am. He and Patina sang live. The chorus was canned. It does not sync up well online. But trust me he was singing live.
I agree, the camera angles were crap. I spent half the number pointing to the top of the screeen so they could see what Patina was doing. Like, seriously, they bothered to bring the trapeze and set it up and everything and it was cut off half the time!
Part of the problem with Live TV is they do one run through about 3 hours before it actually happens. And they have people calling the shots who have NEVER seen the show. It was not a bad segment but could have been shot a little better. None of the people on the GMA team outside had seen the show. Most of the people holding signs (which were made by someone on the Pippin production staff, I made my own MAGIC TO DO sign) and wearing shirts had not seen the show. I was hoping more fans would have shown up. It was what it was. I got to have some face time on GMA and have Matthew sing one of my favorite songs to me during his warm up at 6 am then a nice little chat with him before he went back in to the studio. I was a happy man yesterday! Me at GMA and MAGIC TO DO Sign
That was easily one of the most elaborate yet smoothly presented chat show production numbers since Rosie was on the air, and all I'm seeing is a bunch of nitpicking. They managed to fit a ****e load of stuff into that studio for a three minute segment, and I thought it was great. It could've easily been Pippin and a piano , so I applaud the shows's producers for putting in the extra bucks to give us some extra bang. It could only mean that the Tony number is going to be even better.

Here's their performance as well as a little something they did at 8am. PIPPIN GMA + extra

I agree with you, everythingtaboo! And the teaser "extra" was fun. When I was watching the show, I was so surprised when it started happening (being vague here).
