RED (Golden)
That immediately reminded me of that movie "Red Eye"'s poster. Same-looking font, font color, etc.
I kinda like it though. Simple.
And I'm upset that the gorgeous LEND ME A TENOR artwork will be in B&W on the Playbills.
I was really hoping the Playbill would just be Rothko's "Red."
Congrats. You made it an eyesore.
Really? I'm so proud that my work finally made it onto the boards

For shows still in previews, do they usually have the color Playbills (if they were planning on doing color playbills for the opening), B&W Playbills, or no playbills? I'm headed to NY for the first time, and I'm seeing Promises, Promises on the last show before opening night, and I would like to get a color playbill if possible (if not, I guess I'll be ordering it off the Playbill store).
^I got a colour playbill the first week of Tale of Two Cities playbills.

I saw the 5th preview of 9 to 5, and i got a color playbill, so i dont think you need to worry, and just enjoy the show!

You will most likely receive an Opening Night Playbill. I went about 2 days before the Ragtime opening night and got a few of the playbills. Same with A View From The Bridge.
If a show is going to have color Playbills, it typically will start having them at the first preview and at least have them until opening night, so you are pretty much guaranteed a color Playbill during previews if the show has a color Playbill at all. (I find Playbill trivia kind of interesting, so if someone knows of an exception, please tell us about it!)
Some shows (like Wicked and The Lion King) will have color Playbills for years.
The only two shows I can think of that started in color, went to B&W, and then back to color are Spamalot and the LuPone Gypsy. I'm sure others can give more examples. There are also shows like Rent that had special color closing night Playbills after being in B&W for many years, but that's another category.
I do not know of any show that started in B&W and later switched to color. Again, if anyone knows of any exceptions, please tell us!

Beauty and the Beast started in Black and White (just the white silhouette of the Beast) and then switched to a color playbill which was basically the same thing, only with a red rose this time around. (And then the closing night Playbill was full color with the newer purple/blue background.)

I thought the Bye Bye Birdie revival started in black and white but switched to color during previews.
It did.
Don't know if this was posted yet but:

Thanks for the tips on preview playbills in color. I really wanted my Promises Promises playbill in color, as I don't think the artwork for the show would register at all in B&W.
COLLECTED STORIES (Samuel J. Freidman Theater)
I put this together. I think Promises, Promises looks the best in black and white out of the three.
The La Cage looks kind of cool with the white outline around the letters.
