Sparks flew at taping of SNL in which she left the studio before they went live. And Schmig. was cancelled within a few days. It could have all been coincidence but previous to the fight, teams were in talks for a third season filming in New York.
Things have appeared to patch up as Strong has since appeared on SNL again."
Things that didn’t happen for $200, Alex.
SNL’s last 2023 episode aired December 16th, Schmigadoon was cancelled onJanuary 18th, and SNL’s first 2024 episode airedtwo days later. Cecily Strong hasn’t been a cast member since 2022.
Kudos on the creative writing exercise."

...I mean they also awarded Scott Rudin last night so I don't think the morality of the producers was at the forefront of their minds"
I'm SO looking forward to the Jimmy Awards - nothing but bright futures ahead, without the baggage that producers and their money bring.

syncopation."
Took me a minute but:
syncopation - In music, syncopation is a variety of rhythms played together to make a piece of music, making part or all of a tune or piece of music off-beat.
I wonder if you mean:
syncope - Syncope is the medical term for fainting or passing out, which occurs due to a temporary drop in blood flow to the brain, leading to loss of consciousness. It can be caused by various factors, including dehydration, emotional stress, or underlying medical conditions.![]()

My thoughts are:
-Schmigadoon is worse than Memphis in terms of winners (as were half of the nominees this season for best musical depending on the day and my mood)
-To the teen girls shoving people down the escalator after The Lost Boys tonight, I wish you the worst. You do the show a disservice

ppl on here are wrong about the tonys in two different ways
the tonys are not designed to help the shows that most need them in order to run longer
so the voters arent calculating which show facing closing should therefore get the best musical award
the awards are not to make broadway more fair or competitive like the nfl draft
the truth is
the tonys
like other invented awards such as the oscars or the emmys
were created so there could be a giant circle jerk amongst the ppl working in those industries
patting themselves on the back
and taking home a piece of false idol hardware
in an attempt to fill their empty souls
the fact that some of u actually believe the various award categories go to the 'best' each season is laughable
one need only point to this seasons best musical winner to prove my case
if u believe schmigadoon ranks up there with previous winners
written and directed by the historical greats
u are as clueless as the current tony voters

It's one thing to voice an opinion - even if it's one that others may find disagreeable.
What you did is called trolling.

I teach a musical theatre class for ages 13-17 at a local theatre. My students love Bowen Yang. He's a great choice for this. They know him from Wicked, of course, but I was also surprised at how many of the kids are familiar with SNL and have watched him on there.

I would say 13 -25 IS their prime audience, so Im surprised YOU'RE surprised. After that, most move on - as the new cast members and the humor changes. Im so old that I'll die on the hill the the original cast was the absolute best cast to exist. I think I've watched it MAYBE 3 times in the last 15 years - (Strictly because of the host) and that might be generous.
I truly don't get his appeal - to each his own.

Like many people, I watch selective SNL skits on YouTube in the days after the show airs. I'm in my 50s and find some of Yang's Weekend Update skits to be classics: the iceberg and all variations of China's trade daddy immediately come to mind.

It ranks up there with Memphis and Gentleman's Guide: solid shows, but hardly classics, that won in lean years.
Awards shows, for most of us, are just for fun and for a kind of communal celebration of our interest in Broadway. I doubt many of us treat them as definitive proof that a certain show or artist was the best of the year.

I haven’t seen Schmigadoon yet. Going tonight actually. But I genuinely loved The Lost Boys. It might help that I was a teen when the movie came out, but I thought the show was a blast. I was rooting for it to win. But let’s see how I feel after tonight’s show!
This thread did remind me that I’m still mad that Memphis, which I truly hated, beat Fela and American Idiot. Both jukebox musicals, sure, but vastly superior artistically.

The biggest winner of the Tony Awards was a performer named Pink.
Being older and mostly a theatre fan, I had no idea who she was. She blew me away. From Peter Pan to the Moulin Rouge song and the absolute BEST Velma Kelly I have ever seen.
I am now a fan.
Schmigadoon was a lot of fun and hardly the worst Tony Award Winning Musical. Did anyone see Titanic or Passion?.
The Lost Boys.. other than the flying and the set was a collosal bore in terms of the music and the story.
Pink. I would see her in anything.

I don't mind at all that Schmigadoon won the big award, but it's neither as ambitious in its aims nor as successful in its execution as either of those. As I commented above, I do think it compares favorably with a few other fairly recent winners.
