Pre-Show Music

While listening to my music on shuffle I noticed a few songs that I had recently added were discovered at shows I attended this season. Specifically while seeing Cyrano at BAM I was able to hear "Wildfires" by Sault and "I Love You, I Hate You" by Little Simz.
Then at The Skin of Our Teeth at LCT (which had an amazing pre-show setlist) I added "Undo (Back to My Heart)" by Tinashe & Wax Motif. Shout-out to the usage of Chloe in the actual show!
But I was just curious what music pre-show have people really loved?

Love the "white girl" music before A Strange Loop.
I always like some pre-show music so that no one can hear me huff and puff my way to my seat after hauling myself up several flights of stairs to the balcony.

I think some directors have really caught on that Pre-Show music can do a TON for setting up your audience with the right vibes. SIX has PERFECT pre-show music! Skin of Our Teeth was excellent too!

I fondly recall the pre-show music for Boeing Boeing. Pop tunes done in French. It was great!

Let’s not forget the pre show music before Spamalot. I always loved that. It was so joyful and upbeat and got you ready for the show.

Saw the off-Broadway Kinky Boots last week and was so happy they now have a playlist of Cyndi Lauper songs pre-show, including some lesser known tracks.

Re; Alex Timbers, both his (or rather his composers) preshow instrumental pieces for Beetlejuice and Moulin are great and do such a good job of setting the mood. I love that Beetlejuice is streamable, but oh the THINGS I WOULD DO to stream that ambient, seductive Moulin Rouge preshow track. Utterly gorgeous and stunning in every way whatsoever.

I know it's been a year since you posted about your pre-show music discoveries, but the excitement of attending live shows and finding new tunes remains evergreen!
It's amazing how certain songs can become nostalgic reminders of those unforgettable performances. The memories they evoke make the music even more special.
In the past year, have you continued to explore new musical horizons? If you're open to trying out unique instruments, the bouzouki could be a fascinating choice. It's a captivating stringed instrument with a rich cultural heritage that might add a fresh vibe to your musical journey. You can check out some lovely bouzouki for sale and see how it resonates with your musical soul..

I loved Prima Facie’s pre show music - select songs from Self Esteem’s Prioritise Pleasure album.

Does the pre-show on stage music before Once count? If so, that would be my favorite, especially David Patrick Kelly singing "Raglan Road."

Seems like such a bizarre choice. Why on earth?

THE SHARK IS BROKEN also has a fun pre-show playlist of 1974-75ish pop hits. The only problem was that they have the volume turned up a bit too loud.
