God, I love Diane Wiest. Hoping she takes home a 3rd Oscar for what looks like it'll be an incredible performance. I love Kidman as well but did anyone else notice from those clips that her accent fades in and out a bit? Something I've never noticed with her before..
I was pleasantly surprised by Kidman in these clips. I didn't think she was going to have the sarcastic edge that Becca needs. It's also clear from the clips that Diane is playing the mother WAY differently than Tyne Daly did on Broadway, and I have to say that the bite Tyne gave the character was kinda important to the family dynamic. I worry that Diane's interpretation is going to be too weepy to be effective.
I trust Wiest enough as an actress to make the best choices for whatever character she takes on, so I'm not worried in the slightest.
Weist is an extraordinary actress. I have no doubt she'll be brilliant. Kidman looks great too.
For some reason, I keep wondering what Sandra Bullock would and could have done with the lead role. I think it would've been a challenge for her but I would've loved to see her rise to the occasion, which I'm almost certain she would have. I was hoping they'd go a little off the beaten path with casting Becca, but I have faith in Kidman.
Sorry I don't think Sandra Bullock has the range that Nicole Kidman does, even though it's popular to love Bullock now and hate on Kidman (which is interesting since all you gotta do is look at their filmographies and you'll see Kidman's work is 10 times stronger, and well, and Sandra Bullock's performance in THE BLIND SIDE should've never been rewarded with an Oscar, Kidman's turn as Virginia Woolf however was spectacular). Kidman looks great in the film and many critics are seeing it as her artistic comeback. Dianne Wiest is so brilliant that I couldn't imagine her being anything but outstanding in this (the clip and reviews seem to support this)
Here's a link to Pete Hammond's positive review on Deadline.com, the film has no distributor as far as I know so it may not come out this year after all but we'll see.
Rabbit Hole Review
Kidman is actually a producer on the film. Her film company bought the rights when the play first opened. There is absolutely no guarantee RABBIT HOLE would ever have been made into a movie of any kind if Kidman hadn't fought to make it.
The film as of yet dosn't have a distributor. That will surely change in the next day or so, but it remains to be seen whether it will open this year or be pushed to 2011.
Wow, it seems like ages since Wiest has had a juicy role on film. That alone is enough to make me look forward to this.
Calvin, did you see A GUIDE TO RECOGNIZING YOUR SAINTS? it came out a few years ago and has a remarkable performance by Wiest.
I loved that movie! Channing Tatum proved he could actually act in it too! Who knew?!
very good review from variety. I really hope this film finds a distributor.

Too bad Kidman didn't have the balls to cast Cynthia Nixon.

Bettyboy - Could Kidman borrow yours?
Of course she could. :) I thought Cynthia was stunning and primal in the role.
Love, Love, Love Diane Wiest...another Oscar and she would tie with Walter Brennan for three Supporting acting awards.
Bucket List....Must see Diane on Broadway
The clips look great and both Wiest and Kidman look pretty fantastic in their roles. I hope for great things when this is released.

Sandra Bullock would've been awful. She's about as versatile as Vince Vaughn.
I could see you saying she'd not THAT versatile but the Vaughn comparison is completely unfair, IMO.
I like Kidman. I never said I didn't. But I think it would've been interesting to see someone take on the role who is a bit unorthodox for this part. Or Nixon, who was stunning in the play.
Hey if Nixon wanted to do the movie, she should have bought the film rights herself!
Don't agree with H.E. (Jeffrey Wells) very often, and he's kind of a douche, but this is a great piece about Mitchell's adaptation.
Hollywood Elsewhere about
This looks good and I really like everybody involved. As for Wiest in somewhat recent movies she had a supporting role in Synecdoche, New York (she really does not appear until the second half of the film).
Well looks like this one is in the Oscar race THIS year.
December release.
