Anyone go to the first performance? I’m anxious to hear reports from this one…

This feels like just the show to fill the void of the recently-departed TITANIQUE in the campy, Off-Broadway spoof genre.

They're doing a BOGO ticket offer for previews — hopefully this draws some folx in and gets them talking about it.

Oh look, a bibu!

I’ve been hearing very positive things from friends who attended the first preview and invited dress. I’m going next Thursday.

This type of show is not usually my cup of tea but it was actually very funny, and is more developed than I expected. The sound for this in the rather odd and long Orpheum was unbelievably bad, it was like listening to a faint voice through a tin can string phone in the rear orchestra. Hopefully they can get that sorted, the show will probably do very well.

Show being advertised as 80 minutes but last night’s 3rd preview ran 95.

the show definitely loses a lot of steam during the last 20ish minutes, but it’s a rollicking good time. Liked it a good deal more than both Titanique and Gay Jamboree. The jokes are sharper and every single actor is demolishing it.

the “handshake” is worth price of admission alone.

The Handshake really sold me on the show. It was impossible to resist that. So funny.

This is so stupid and damn if I wasn’t in tears laughing for a lot of it.
I can’t really call it high art- it makes Oh, Mary! look like O’Neill in comparison- but it’s such a twisted parody filtered through nonstop gags and bizarrely specific queer pop cultural references that it’s really hard to resist. The cast is uniformly fantastic and Kevin Zak’s direction is incredibly tight. Philip Taratula’s Meredith Blake is something to behold, the depiction of London is so ridiculous, and there is a moment with a dog puppet that is so unexpected and hilarious.

have a drink, have a toke, go have a great time.

saw last night's 9pm show and I'm in agreement with Kad. absolutely stupid zero-calorie gut busting fun. the entire cast is murdering this show. if you're a millennial like me: go, turn your brain off, and pull a muscle from laughing.

btw show ran 82 minutes on the dot, although it did start a bit late, so they must have tightened things up over the past week.

This feels more like UCB amateur hour than a play and every joke could have been, or already was, a tweet. Nowhere near as clever as Titanique.

We've been on the fence with this one.  Have heard both good and bad.

Do you need familiarity with the Parent Trap films to get the jokes?

There are a number of jokes and riffs on specific things from the movie, so knowing it will help. That being said, though, the movie wasn’t really a major touchstone for me and I hadn’t seen it in many years and I didn’t feel like I missed a ton. The show is so dense with jokes and references to so many things that if you miss something, something that will land with you will be coming a few seconds later.

As someone who saw and loved Titanique from early development and saw Ginger Twinsies, I need to comment in opposition of this review. It’s exceptionally clever and if USB were this funny it wouldn’t have gone out of business once already. I echo the raves already posted here.

I thought this was more genuinely funny and inventive than Titanique by an order of magnitude. Both are basically UCB-adjacent shows in tone and talent, which is not a slur on them.

I caught this tonight and it is truly INSANE. I loved it. It’s high camp for 85 minutes straight. The performances are hilarious, Russell Daniels is PERFECT. If you’re a fan of pop culture in general, you’ll love this with Kevin Zak’s quick and clever writing.

TodayTix rush is $32 and was front row of the balcony. Excellent view! GO!

Saw this tonight. It’s very funny, but only for those who know the Lindsay Lohan version by heart. Others likely won’t catch most of what’s happening on stage, as the show doesn’t really tell the story of the movie—or tries to, but speeds through every laugh at a meteoric pace, making it hard to follow if you don’t already know the plot. So if you haven’t seen the film before, skip this. If you have, watch it again the night before. The references are extremely specific, and you probably won’t catch them if you last saw the film 10 years ago.

I too saw it tonight but disagree about the plot being confusing. I think if you know the basic structure of the parent trap you can follow. I don’t think you necessarily need to know the Lohan one specifically to follow the plot. But I do agree than overwhelmingly the jokes are specific to the remake.

I had a lot of fun and me and my bff laughed a lot but I did feel that it I still think it could shave another ten minutes off to really click. And while I know they’re giving their all, I personally did not live the performer playing Meredith. It felt quite a low energy performance, and wondered what others could’ve done with it.

if it runs, I could see some choice drag stars going into it. Bianco Del Rio???? jinx?

Have to disagree too. 2 people in our group didn’t know the movie and had an excellent night too. Seeing the movie helps but is not necessary.

Also saw this on Thursday and thought it was hysterical. My jaw genuinely hurt from laughing. The jokes come fast and furious, so even if you’re not intimately familiar with The Parent Trap (1998), if you have some semblance of nostalgia toward the 90s, you’ll have a great time. Also, if you’re a queer Millennial. MVP for me was Russell Daniels as Annie. A truly unhinged performance.

That said, it’s lighter than light entertainment and I doubt this has any legs past its Orpheum run - and that’s okay! Not every 80-minute gay comedy running off-Broadway needs to be in the same league as Oh, Mary! and I think the comparisons pretty much end at “Off-Broadway one act comedy featuring wigs” anyway. It’s far too niche to grab a wider audience than will fill this current run, and I think it’s all the better for it.

Truly a 10/10 evening. As Kad said: get a little drink (I did), have a little puff (I did), and enjoy the absurdity of it.

We actually had the opposite experience—those in our group who didn’t know the film couldn’t get out of the theater fast enough. But then again, if you're going to see The Parent Trap parody, you better know The Parent Trap.
