Please help me out, the hottest musical on broadway that i haven't seen before vs. a musical i've seen 6 times but never with Adam and Anthony, oh I only have one day to see them.
Please help me decide!!!
spring awakening.
no contest.
and is it really the hottest musical on broadway?

You should see Spring Awakening- you've already seen Rent, and can get the gist of Adam and Anthony from the film. Spring Awakening live is not to be missed!
This is exactly what it came down to with me. I'd go with SA- it's fresh, still has most of the OBC, and is hotter. If you've seen RENT 6 times, definitely go see SA.
Well, it depends.
Are you really a big enough fan of RENT to go see it again with the OBC members? Because if you are, go for that. It's not as Spring Awakening will be closing anythime soon.
This is a really biased opinion, but Spring Awakening, hands down.
Rent, you may not get a chance like this again.
SA ain't going anywhere.

You'll never get to see Adam and Anthony in Rent again. Spring Awakening will be around for a long time in the city and then probably for years on tour. (Plus, it's not the second coming that many theatre fans think it is). Go see Rent.
Rent all the way
SA will be around (shudder) for a long time to come and you wont get this opportunity to see the originals in it again.
Plus Rent is a far better show
RENT. No contest.
SA is a big old wannabe that imho falls WAY short.
"This is a lame debate."
...so don't waste your time posting about it. Go find a thread that meets your high standards.
I would go see Rent, because I would love to see those two guys back in their roles again.
I agree with the others who are saying you could still see SA at a later date.

It depends on how often you get to see a Broadway show. If you live in Podunk, Iowa and only get to NYC every five years, go see SA. If you get back often, then maybe see Rent if you are a HUGE fan and two cast members make that much of a difference. Yes, they are the original cast, and I saw them way back when and loved them, but you are still not seeing the entire original production nor the original cast. And there is something to be said for seeing SA fresh and with the original cast, just like seeing Rent with the original cast way back when.
As an aside, I adore both shows and have seen each mulitple times, but in MHO, SA is by FAR the better show.

Rent and Spring Awakening are much more different than people give them credit for. Rent speaks for one generation, while SA makes a general human commentary. The music is also vastly different, and so is the mood...
That being said, I've yet to see Spring Awakening (i'm seeing it august 17th) but from what I gather, I think I would like it more than rent... At least music wise.
edit: lol, I only read the thread title, not the actual post... silly me.
I say see Rent if it means that much to you that adam and anthony are in it. You can see SA any time

You could see Rent with two original cast members, or Spring with nearly the whole original cast. Think of it this way. In 1996, would you have seen Rent with the whole original cast or another show you loved with 2 original cast members??

Yes, but the 2 original cast members are only in for 6 weeks. If they are a Rent fan, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to see these two together in the show. The cast of Spring Awakening will most likely be around for awhile. Depending on how often you come to the city, I'd say you could see SA at a later date. Just my opinion.
Another vote for RENT here. My friend and I haven't seen Spring Awakening either and my friend at least would really like to, but as neither show has performances on Sunday we had to choose one. We're going to see RENT because how often do you get a chance to see OBC members 11-12 years later? SA will be around for a long time... and unless you find that cast particularly amazing, go see RENT. No contest.

You may not even like Spring Awakening. There's less of a risk of disappointment if you see Rent because you'll know what you're getting when you enter the theater. If you don't like Spring Awakening then you'll spend the rest of the year disappointed that you didn't like the show and didn't get to see A&A. It would be a double whammy.
I can kind of see the reasoning of the people who say to go see Rent. But Spring Awakening could pull a Spelling Bee and bring in a new cast that can't compare to the old.

How long are Rapp and Pascal going to be in RENT for?
I think Mark's argument is the best one. I went into seeing SA expecting...I don't know what, but I'd seen it so hyped, I expected more. I left glad I'd only paid the student rush rate. If I didn't live here and had given up something else I really wanted to see as well to see SA, I would have been doubly miserable.
If seeing Adam and Anthony is that important to you (and they're great), definitely RENT. If it's sort of an "Oh, it might be cool to see them, but I really don't care one way or the other" then go whichever way your heart leads.
I agree with Mark (and Jordan).
And I would like to add I, too, have seen RENT six times. Yet somehow I think the 7th might be the most exciting... I wonder why that could be?!
Though the first time was amazing because it was the first time... and Jai Rodrigues was in it.
Anyway. Go see RENT.

I didn't really care for either.
BUT! I would go see Spring Awakening because then you would have seen the "hottest show on Broadway"
