Why would 2nd Stage want ROCK OF AGES in their newly acquired theater? The movie is years away from a release date. It couldn't possibly last that long.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

I heard that 2nd Stage plans to open a play there in Spring 2011. This was two months ago...

I love this show but that theater needs to be saved for small plays that would have no chance in a bigger house.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were closing, but I would be surprised if it were going into the Hayes. I think I heard that Colin Quinn is extending, but might be wrong.

Wouldn't it be smarter to move it back to an off-Broadway house?

I wonder if this thread will be deleted despite the news coming from a BWW contributor.
PS I'd hate to see the lovely Hayes staff have to endure the drunken masses that attend this show.

I can easily see this closing, but moving to another Broadway house? Not at all. I feel like even if it did in fact move to the Helen Hayes, it would only be to play to a sold out audience.

I'm surprised. I thought it was doing pretty well?

Well, if BroadwayGirlNYC says it, then it MUST be true!

Apparently the cast and crew were told before the matinee today. I didn't hear anything about a move - could they even fit in the Hayes without a completely re-designed set?

They were told their closing or moving?

Tking, will they have rush or lottery when they move to the Hayes? How will the lines be? Should I get there really early?

LOL
Probably rush because the Hayes usually has rush for their shows

I guess we won't see Jenna Jameson play Justice!

Told they were closing. I don't think a move was mentioned.

Ugh, yet another show I now have to see during winter break

I feel so sorry for all those actors who will be out of work--or moving to smaller quarters.

they were told last night after the Friday show, not today after the matinee. and having spoken to several people involved in the production today, both cast and crew, they were told they are closing jan 9th, and moving to the Helen Hayes.

There's kind of a difference between the show closing and moving lol. If it's closing, I (and many others) have to see it before January; if it's moving, we don't.

Only an announcement will clear it all up. Be patient, young Jedi.

So the only thing left for ROA will be the tour? ROA Toronto closes January 2nd.
