The Visit was filmed for the NYPL archives, without Roger Rees though .
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I was at TKTS one very slow day and got a pair of tickets to A Man of No Importance. I knew nothing about the show, and we were startled to find our seats were fifth-row-center.
Roger played the lead role with such delicacy and such heartfelt honesty. I consider myself lucky to have stumbled upon that production in that way. It's an afternoon at the theatre I will never forget.
Does anyone have any details about the Sept. 21st memorial at the New Amsterdam? Like admission prices, etc.? I really do want to attend this but I need all the pertinent info...
His spirit, love, enthusiasm and generosity were captured beautifully by all who spoke and performed in his honor. My life is so much richer for having known him.
"Two drifters off to see the world. There's such a lot of world to see. . ."
Bumping this to post some scans of a People Magazine article about Roger Rees, published during his time on Broadway as Nicholas Nickleby sometime in the fall of 1981. Thanks to my sister Sarah for scanning the pages!
ETA: Dang, the links aren't working. Sorry, I'll work with it tonight and try to get it fixed!
I'm still kind of kicking myself for not getting myself to that New Amsterdam tribute. And I really can't get over just how sudden his passing was. I was listening to The Visit's OBCR and wondering, "Jeez, Roger sat in a studio and sang this just a few months ago- and had no idea it would be his last." It really makes you think...

I'm not sure if I'm reading your post correctly, but I'm pretty sure he knew that recording would likely be his last.
