Julia Murney as Velma von Tussle. Christine Estabrook as Mrs. Lovett.
How about Cheyenne Jackson as Mortimer brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace? He has such comedic skills. Wonder if he can be as funny as Cary Grant was. Love ot see how Cheyenne Jackson do that part and be as funny in the scene where he gets tied up and gagged to a chair by his brother Jonathan. He would probably pull it off.

Anyone else think Anne Hathaway could be the definative Louise for this generation? If they make another movie of it within the next 4 years or so, she's gotta do it.
Rachel York has already played Eva and Reno, not on Broadway but she has done them. Both at Reprise! i believe. Just for the record.
(In this order and she should win tonys for the last 5)
Rachel York as Janet in The Drowsy Chaperone
Rachel York as The Lady in The Lake in Spamalot
Rachel York as Charity Hope Valentine in Sweet Charity
Rachel York as Queenie in The Wild Party (LaChiusa)
Rachel York as Lili Garland in On The Twentieth Century
Rachel York as Margret in The Light In The Piazza
Rachel York as the Edies in Grey Gardens
Rachel York as Rose in Gypsy
Bernadette Peters as Mona in Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Toni Collette as Carla in Connie and Carla: The Musical.
Nia Vardolos as Connie in Connie and Carla: The Musical.

Barbra Streisan back on broadway as Dolly Levi. She is age appropriate now.
But I would love to see Hello, Dolly back on Broadway and have it done back in the 60's when all of these famous, talented women took their own spin on the character.

BwayBaby18,
You make me smile. Are you sure you're not Rachel York's manager?
I love your list, although I think she's a bit too young for a couple of them. In time, though...
Speaking of roles I'd love to see her play, how about the one currently occupied by the person in your avatar? The Bride in Young Frankenstein? She'd be a sexy h-o-o-t.
And to clarify, yes, Rachel did play Reno Sweeney at Reprise! in LA, but she played Eva Peron in high school, believe it or not. During her Seth's Broadway Chatterbox interview she said that she won some kind of Best Actress Award for it as a senior! Mon Dieu!!!
I'd say it's time for her to play Evita! on Broadway, wouldn't you?

Loveclassic i could only hope to be her manager! But there is a reason why i put them in that order... so she'll be like a fine wine and only get better with age. I agree that she can't play all of them today, but she will be able to play them later in their much anticipated revivals. :)
Thanks for the info about her Eva. I'd love to see it.
Also do you think she could play Victor/Victoria i was thinking about that last night....

BwayBaby18,
I LOVE the idea of Rachel York playing Victor/Victoria! How great would that be? Originating the role of Norma and being brilliant at it, then going on to play V/V. She's just so beautiful, though. She could pull off the female impersonator part to perfection, but pulling off a believable man underneath - wow. That would be a challenge. I think she might come across more as a transgender (a woman who became a man who is now impersonating a woman), but that could work, too!
What fun.

Chita Rivera as Sally Bowles (when she was younger)
Sutton Foster as Glinda
Jane Krakowski as Aurora in Spider Woman

About Conan O'Brien as Harold Hill, he was actually offered that role!! In the most recent revival. Though he had to turn it down because of Late Night, since that takes up most of his time. That would have been absolutely MAGICAL!!!! = )
I've never understood the Audra as Mame thing. She always seems way too cool and reserved for the role to me.
It's basically impossible in every way you can think of it, but Angela Lansbury would have been amazing as the Edies in "Grey Gardens."
Still holding out for Leslie Kritzer and Patti LuPone in "The Rink."
Oh, and Ethel Merman and Mary Martin as the Hilton sisters in "Side Show."
And, one more, Megan Mullally as Adelaide.
For some reason i just keep seing Vanessa Williams as Donna in Mamma Mia
