I think Martin Short would be a great host. And I'll produce the damn thing. Seriously, after last year, its gonna take a LOT for me to be satisfied this year. Like I want Jerry Herman pictures taped to all the spinny things.
Ok, jk, but still, I had better be really satisfied. Or else, or else, or else I'LL BITCH!
Ok, I got nothing.

"At this point, ANY host is better than NO host. Last year's telecast was BORING! "
Actually, I thought last year's broadcast was the best in years. The lack of a host meant that they kept things moving, and the show didn't feel like three hours.

Her openings were campy and wonderful!
She actually seems EXCITED to host the show! And it is genuine. She has never done anything for Broadway but promote and support it. She deserves your respect for that sliver of her life if nothing else.
Now that she is hosting The View, all the Mommy's are watching her again. If she hosts the Tonys and keeps having shows perform on The View, CBS will have the highest ratings they have had for the show in many years.

Billy Crystal would be wonderful but I think he should've hosted the year he won for 700 Sundays.
Martin Short should definitely host. I just think he is incredibly hilarious, and it would be the perfect season for him to host, seeing as how he was on Broadway this season.
I usually like Rosie but I'd like to see someone entertaining, funny, and someone who could pull off a great opening. Like...Martin Short!

Posted: 1/24/07 at 11:32pmThe also need to get a good writer. Hugh Jackman was an okay host but his openings were pretty lame. The One Night Only opening was as about exciting and entertaining as watching a snail cross a sidewalk. You could tell they were trying, but not really succeeding.

I LOVE Rosie but I don't think she would do it again...or they wouldn't ask her to do it again.
I'd LOVE to see Martin Short or even Jay Johnson and Bob host it but the one I'm rooting for is SETH RUDETSKY! Now, in a way I know this would never happen because he's not really a "name" and wouldn't bring in a TV going crowd.

I love how people hate Rosie for speaking her mind...
How is it when a man does it, he's considered bold...
Yet when a woman does it, she's a bitch?

How about Rosie and Harvey. That would be entertainment!
I love Rosie and Harvey. Would love for them to sing from Fiddler. Bruce Vilanch could write something marvelous!

Rosie and Trump performing Peas in a Pod at The Tonys. Now that'd be interesting.
I think that Rosie, a great friend to the theter, should be able to host the Tonys again. She certainly can't sing, but her personality and comic timing would add to the telecast.
Harvey has been wonderful at The Drama Desk Awards, so he might be a good choice as well.

Arrrgh what is this Rosie backlash going on?
Shes a strong woman who speaks her mind and has done a hell of a lot for Broadway and deserves nothing but praise.
And lets face it america have given the world some idiots before ,but to give us Trump as a tv star was just low grrrr

Can you imagine Rosie and Trump singing "Bosom Buddies"? Ha!
On a side note, I haven't enjoyed the Tony's as much since Rosie stopped being host. I HATED not having a host at all and I was not amused by Hugh Jackman.
I heart Rosie. (But Harvey would be fun, too.)

Posted: 1/25/07 at 11:14amHarvey is the best host the Drama Desk ever had. Well, I am biased. It was my suggestion to get him as host. Hope he comes back again this year. I adore him. He is funny.

I strongly, 100% disagree. I thought the 2004 Tonys with the "One Night Only" theme was the best telecast in years!! And that is my favorite opening number of any Tony show. High energey, featured the lesser-acknowledged ENSEMBLE members, and Hugh kicked it with the Rockettes BRILLIANTLY!

The writing was a little lacking, but the "One Night Only" opening number was BRILLIANT. I thought it was so stunning.
And I think there's a very, very good chance that they will ask Rosie to host the Tonys this year. It's obvious.
She's made, for lack of a better word, a "comeback" of sorts. The American public seems to have welcomed her back into their daily lives. She made THE VIEW from something that was doing okay to a huge hit - the ratings instantly went up 50% when Rosie joined the show.
That's huge. So as much as all of you want to say that you hate her (for no good reason), she's a HUGE draw right now, and if she can bring THE VIEW's ratings up 50%, surely she can do something with the Tony Awards. And that's exactly what the tonys need this year - ratings.
They will ask her, and I have a feeling she will accept.

No Hugh. They won't have Bette or Megan...I say Rosie or Martin Short. They will have someone who has helped the broadway community or recently done something...each have a big name...I think either of them would be wonderful.
They do need a host last year...the no host crap was boring.

I loved One Night Only.
I agree that Seth would be great, but he's not tooo big of a name.
Does Seth have a podcast?
Bring back Rosie! She brought Broadway to daytime TV with her 1st show and the View.

"When critics claimed that Broadway was on the decline and the networks threatened to stop broadcasting the Tony Awards, Rosie, an ardent fan of the theater, came to the rescue. Not only did she agree to host the 51st Annual Tony Awards (1997), but she also did a weeklong tribute to the Great White Way on her show leading up to the event. The Tonys earned their highest ratings in 10 years, with much credit given to Rosie."
She also won a Primetime Emmy for The 52nd Annual Tony Awards.
