Tonight is Silvie, first preview. Won the today tix lottery. More excited in Silvie than Sarah. But have Wednesday Thursday off as well so will try to get a lottery ticket for either of those nights.

Friends at the first preview told me Sarah “isn’t great”, that her operatic sound isn’t at all right for the role and she isn’t acting it well.
Tim Draxl is being praised, as is the design. It’s apparently over-choreographed but what isn’t these days?
More reports to come, I’m sure.
I’ve seen sunset with Debra Byrne ( the less said the better )
Maria Mercedes who did two shows per week during the original Melbourne run. Maria was everything Debra wasn’t. She sung the score like it was written for her, her acting brilliant
Glenn Close in New York at the semi staged concerts at the palace theatre, and still might be on the greatest performances I’ve seen on stage.
Now we get to poor Sarah Brightman ( who I saw in Phantom with Michael Crawford ) sadly her voice is shot , her acting is questionable and really brought nothing to the roll.
Now in saying that , others around me , loved it.
My biggest thing is we will probably never get the new Jamie Lloyd staging that swept London last year, opening New York this year cause we have gotten this sub par production.
I will go back and see it with Silvie and hope for better
Can you elaborate more on that? The first performance of the Australian version with Sarah has started about 1 hour ago. Basically 30 minutes before your post. Sad to read that you didn't like the first performance, which ends in about 2 hours. And that other people loved it beforehand.

Mate. It’s 11.32 pm on Tuesday night here. The show started at 7.00pm. Finished at 9.44pm and posted when I got home at 10.30 ish. Considering I live in Australia , I’m confident about the time line

It’s 11:30pm in Melbourne right now (“right now” being 930am EST). If the show started at 8pm Melbourne time at the latest, the curtain came down 45 mins or an hour ago. So the show would have ended at 1030pm or 1045pm Melbourne time, which is 830am or 845am EST.
if the show started at 7pm or 730pm, then it finished even longer ago.

Next time, instead of figuring out your math (which is terrible, by the way), just simply Google: current time in Melbourne, Australia.
Brody nothing better than basically be called a liar when google would have solved all his issues

Absolutely. So proud on his soapbox and his math.

I know, that would mean the show would still be running if it had started at 8, at the time of his post. Which is peculiar. But it turns out it started at 7, so that's indeed 1 more hour to fabricate a review, saying nothing about the performance, but elaborating on the New York and previous Australian versions and all Norma's in the world.
Rosscoe, can you telly anything about this performance? Because your whole post wasn't about it.

Seb are you kidding with this time zone thing?

Go read my post. Stop posting cause you’re making yourself looking stupider every time you do.
Sarah was awful. She couldn’t sign the role , couldn’t act the role , her voice had no power.
We got short changed in Australia, instead of getting Jamie Lloyd’s thrilling new production we got this sub par one.
Now before I block you for good. Just stop

I'm sorry you didn't like her interpretation. Did she sing everything in a higher key? More operatic? How was the overall direction, the orchestra, the sets, the other roles? Any details?
Personally I found the Jamie Lloyd version a complete travesty. So my hopes were higher for this more sincere version.

Incorrect. This has been explained three times already, but I'll try again. Rosscoe's post came at 9:03 am EDT, which is 11:03 pm in Melbourne - a little over four hours after the show started, plenty of time for someone to see the entire show and post here about it. As others have noted, you should have your ducks in a row before accusing someone of dishonesty. (On a related note, who on earth is "liking" your erroneous posts?)

We've already moved past this, but thanks. And it wasn't only the time confusion that made me suspicious, but thanks for your input. What are your feelings about this production?

Getting this back on topic - is she singing the score in the Glenn keys, or have they made additional alterations for her voice?
This ^
Rosscoe: can you talk more about the production elements? This seemed like it was supposed to be a spare no expense production.

Friend who saw it says she’s singing in the Glenn keys.

The house set looked pretty cool in the bts video they released a few weeks ago. Curious how the rest look.
Did they keep any of the original costume designs? The golden New Ways To Dream robe and pants? The Mad Salome cape/headdress for the finale?
Let’s go back to the lavish original, this was never to match that ( understandably so ) the studio sets are a bare stage with smaller props pushed or carried on by the cast. With a walk way over head to at least give the stage some depth.
The mansion set rolls in from upstage and a single piece from stage right, it’s not as grand as the original, staircase on the other side ( stage left ) painted mostly black grey.
I have no idea if it was the same keys as Glenn, but Sarah had no power in her voice, it was sung with overtones of opera. With one look and if we never said goodbye should have soared through that theatre they didn’t. The acting ( after seeing both Maria Mercedes and Glenn Close ) was all the same, the mad scene wasn’t mad enough.
Hopefully this link will show some of the last and the bows

Curious about the orchestra size/instrument used, would you mind sharing the info. Thank you.
