Hi, so let me rant

I recently auditioned for a revival (can't say, sorry) and I pulled understudy for a teen part. Well, in my contract it said "blah blah blah you get the part if ***** resigns blah blah blah" RIGHT? right. so, the director, (can't say who) decides to give the part to (can't say who) and my moms get mad and I drop out and NOW I'M BLACKLISTED AND CAN'T AUDITION FOR ANYTHING WITHOUT EMBARRASING MY ASS OF IN FRONT OF IMPORTANT PEOPLE WHO KNOW ME AS THE GIRL WHO RESIGNED BEFORE THE SHOW WAS EVEN ANNOUNCED (coming summer 2020 :))

so yeah, I'm pissed

Try not to be embarrassed- and audition all you want- and just do your best. Eventually, this too will be forgotten- you are not a big star who has a lawsuit to contend with- this is really a small blip- just keep doing what you are doing and hope that someone will cast you- if you are talented and ambitious- it will work out for you.

Stop screaming (using caps) and move on. You are not some star that had a fit and they will remember, you are one of thousands who audition and this will be forgotten.

Bro, this is silent gift if ever I saw one. Regardless of what transpired, if anyone remembers you from that blip, this is golden. It instantly singles you out and if your talent is there, it will be noticed more than any unknown auditioning. Take this as a blessing. Millions would kill for what happened to you in order to be singled out from a bunch of unknowns. Talent will win any day.

You are NOT Blacklisted. Apparently, you do not understand the term. You simply are embarrassed about your bad decision to withdraw from your, obviously, first Broadway show when there was no reason to do so.

This is not how professionals act. This is not how professionals react to having the role they are UNDERSTUDYING replaced long before the first rehearsal. At this point you had value in the track you were cast in NOT in the more prestigious track. As everyone else here has written- be grateful the director found you have any value at all.

The FIRST Broadway contract is the most difficult one to get and your mothers have screwed this this one up. Fortunately, you are young, there will be others.

I’m really not sure how to respond to the OP. The way she worded things is super confusing! Does she mean that they took the understudy track away from her and so she quit? Did they give her a different track?

I’m also not sure if she’s kidding or not. The show she’s talking about is obviously The Music Man (time frame/ they’re currently casting/ there are a few teen roles in that show/ etc.).

I’m a multiple award winning actor and I would KILL to sweep the stage after every performance of that show just to get into the building. If she really quit because of something so futile, I hope she is blacklisted. People like that have absolutely no grasp of the business or love of their craft. You shouldn’t be in this business for glamour, stardom and money. Sometimes that comes with the territory, but most of the time it doesn’t. You have to truly love what you do and love being in the room. And being in the room with those actors would have been life-changing for you. Typical child “l’m going to change the world” arrogance. One day she’ll grow up and understand the chance she missed.

If this is true, then I feel so sorry for the OP for turning down what is an incredible opportunity. I understand the feeling. But, OP, you are not blacklisted at all! You clearly still have a great future and lighting could strike twice for you.

If you’re a teenager and don’t live in NYC, I can absolutely understand parents not being on board with uprooting you & your family’s entire life “just” (you know what I mean) to be an understudy.

There’s an American Theatre Wing video doc about the kids in School of Rock and they all talk about the impossible choices their families made to have the child be in the show. It’s not for everyone.

Agreed that this is definitely a junior high/community theatre kid. Equity does not allow “conditional” contracts that can be withdrawn if they find someone they like better! OP also could not have a hissy fit and storm out without breaching his/her contract. Definitely a troll post.
