SPRING AWAKENING Revival in the Works?

The rumor mill is churning on this one, starring Eva Noblezada.

For Broadway. No other info except that Eva is attached. We’ll have to wait and see if the rumor has legs.

Edit: Supposedly the Rupert Goold London revival.

The original production and the Deaf West productions were both perfection. I don't think we need another take on it for a while. I can't imagine improving upon what has been done before.

And from a business standpoint, didn't the 2015 revival struggle financially even as a limited run? I don't see this being a success.

A few years ago this would have been great casting but isn’t she a bit old for that role now?

Was the Goold revival good at the Almeida?

I like that Eva N is constantly busy working, but I just do not see this succeeding financially. The original was not a massive hit (made worse by the economy at that time). The Deaf West revival's reviews were about as good as anyone could ever hope for a Broadway revival, and it didn't translate into ticket sales.

Also, there are SO MANY other shows deserving of a Bway revival. Burn some money on a revival of PASSION or CITY OF ANGELS instead.

I had heard months ago they wanted to transfer depending on theatre availability. The production was supposed to be breathtaking. Eva is a little old for this, but Amara was about 24/25 when she did it in London. Eva is 26, but also reads young (especially if she grows out her hair) and would sing the s*it out of this. This version is without a doubt the darkest yet, and it’s incredibly timely. A lot of teens who were born around the time the original opened are discovering the show now and falling in love with it-that crossover wasn’t quite there in 2015 imo. This could do very well.

Would be sweet timing if this came in the Spring when Lea was still doing Funny Girl and Merrily transfers with Groff.

The fact that this is being revived twice in the span of a few years is kind of crazy. Is this the new gypsy? I'd much rather see another Gypsy.

I think the music is gorgeous - even if the lyrics don't make much sense - so I'd be curious to see another version, but not sure it's commercial at all. Or really what the point of a revival would be. To make money? Then I don't see it working. To revive the property? Sure?

What I'm about to say might not age well, but here goes:

I'm gonna go ahead and predict that this doesn't actually happen. I think this is just a rumor; maybe there are real conversations happening behind the scenes, but my bet is that it won't come to fruition - at least not as a commercial Broadway production. I'll be less surprised if it happens in some other capacity (West end, regional, off-Broadway, or even non-profit Broadway).

Of course, if I'm wrong, I'll happily admit it. But that's my gut feeling at the moment.

City Of Angels was supposed to play London at the start of the pandemic. Obviously didn't happen, but later in 2020 Vanessa Williams said they were still in talks to do it. 2020 was basically another lifetime though so I'm thinking that production is dead.

It *did* happen, it played a few previews before lockdown

It got raves in the West End but closed after only 4 months back in the early 90s. The production with Vanessa Williams was a transfer of the sold out Donmar Warehouse production, which won the Olivier for best revival in 2015

EDIT: Sorry I was still thinking about City of Angels!

SA was a critical hit, won a bunch of Olivier Awards, but tanked spectacularly and closed really quickly. It was in the West End for like 2 months

The place it’s from just posted about the TAKE ME OUT run 5 days before it was announced. I’m not saying it’s 100% true, but the grain of salt isn’t massive.
