What are the chances that SA would consider releasing a "2nd edition" cast recording? The London show _We Will Rock You_ did this, that is reissue an updated version of the OCR within a year of the original release.
I think that they should do this for 3 reasons:
1. Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind and Guilty Ones appear on the OBC in the reverse order than they do in the show.
2. The photos in the liner notes are of the off-Broadway cast... I originally though "Stephen Spinella really looks different"... until I realized that I was looking at a photo of Frank Wood.
3. The lyrics, orchestration, and harmonies to Purple Summer have completely changed from what was originally recorded.
In all honesty, does it really matter? The differences are not that substantial to warrant another recording. Recording a show and releasing the CD costs too much money as it is, and it really isn't that big of a difference.
So I would say the chances are slim to none.
By they way, parts of Touch Me have had lyrical changes. I highly that they cast recording would be redone.

They will only rerecord it if Brooke Sheilds replaces Lea Michele...

Although I wouldn't mind another recording. It won't happen anytime soon.
And poor Jonny B. Wright isn't credited correctly...or at all for that matter, at least in the verticle cast list.

Oh yes, that too. His name was not printed and, they accidentally put Tom Deckman who involved in workshops of the show..
It's a shame that the cast recording turned out, IMO, so boring. The music is gorgeous live, and the cast recording captured little-to-none of that energetic rock feel that it has in person. It feels very subdued in comparison.
As much as I know it won't happen I really wish that they would just because the cast recording sounds very different than what you hear at the o'neil. There are a couple songs with different lyrics, different arrangements and I really think that a new recording could be really cool. Maybe a live one? I just think that because the music seemed fairly different live (it really seemed to just be a lot more hard rock w/ songs like Mamma Who Bore Me Reprise, My Junk, Those You've Known, The Guilty Ones) that a new recording could be a lot of fun. But as many have said it's doubtful that it will happen.
Well the cast recording is much more subdued than it is live. I think this might have been one of those recordings that would have benefitted from being recorded live, rather than in a studio. I think it would have heightened the rock feel much more. Also, Lea's performance live is much more beltier than she is on the CD...I mean she practically whispers most of her stuff. No clue why.

Because of that, they eventually might do a reprint of the cast booklet and stick it into the CD case, but a new CD isn't really necessary. Especially since the changes aren't really major.

A few months ago, I was at a talkback with the cast. They said there were ideas in the works for another version depending on how the show was going to do (this was in January), and if it was successful they would probably eventually release something else, even if it was just a live version. Nothing soon, but definitely not out of the question.
i like the live lyrics of purple summer much more
and i live version of the show would be awesome
the OBCR doesnt do bitch of a living justice, its just not the same with out felling the stomping
I would absolutely love if they did a new version. The new lyrics to a couple of the songs are beautiful and would sound great rerecorded.
They'd probably never do it, but I wish they would.
The cast recording does do justice to the show at all. The recording doesn't capture the energy of the show either. I think the only person it does justice to it Skylar Astin, who's solo in Touch Me sound just as good as when he sings it live.

Could someone post these new lyrics cause I don't remember them.
I was thinking that it was a shame the new lyrics and arrangements weren't recorded. I love the new harmonies and lyrics, much better than the ones recorded. To be fair, the lyrics sound much cooler live than when analyzed on the cast recording. But this is also because some of those lyrics are obsolete. But whatever, if a new recording doesn't come out, I'm quite satisfied with the present one.

I agree that a "live" recording would be a real cool thing to do for this show, it really would work well and add something to the flat studio version. I would go one step further and add an audience mike to catch the energy from the audience too.
I also hate the lyrics to Purple Summer on the disc, give me the ones that they are using in the show.
When I finally saw it live, I thought everything sounded much better, especially Bitch of Living.
Agreed on nearly all points, including that the chances of a re-recording actually happening are slim at best.
Although there are many parts of the CD that I wish were more like the show, I think "Mama Who Bore Me (Reprise)" is the most egregious departure. What for me was one of the most electric moments in the show, as we get to see the first really rock-influenced song in the score, has all the fire taken out of it in the recording.

well she was on Hannah Montana, you never know
Is the music for Spring Awakening really better live? Because I have the recording and I like it, but I agree that some of it sounds a little too subdued
I agree that it should have been recorded live.

I'm loving the cast recording! It was a wonderful surprise, because I had never cared for any of Duncan Sheik's music before. Can't wait to see the show.

I was bored and saw her on Hannah Montana last night...
