So....was this the audition for a film version of the musical? Because....I kind of hope it was.

I wonder if Celie is still promised (or contracted?) to Fantasia for the film.

I thought it was brilliant. She's looking physically stunning also.
This article is a little dated but hold a qood question. How long will Oprah wait? If J-Hud gets amazing reviews for the Nelson Mendela (sp?) film she might nudge her way into the tole of Miss Celie. The only question is...does J-Hud want to do another movie musical?

"only question is...does J-Hud want to do another movie musical?"
It's not like it wasn't a good career move for her before. It's not like she was in NINE.

Jennifer Hudson is such a superior choice to Fantastia in every way.

I know some prefer Fantasia's raw vocals and emotions. But Hudson is such a skilled and far superior vocalist. I'd take her vocals over Fantasia's any day.

Jennifer is just such a beautiful phenomenal performer!her vocals are unmatched!i wouldn't be suprised if she did get the role of Celie!she is the BEST BEST choice ,but i just know fantasia isn't letting it go without a fight, especially with that nauseating show of hers!Fantasia for Real? Really,no.

I LOOOOOVE her. But... that being said, I don't know if she could pull of the vulnerability. I would love to hear her sing the score though.

Maybe she should have sang the Oprah theme song.

Hello Miss Celie.

She is truly a stunning performer. My first thought after seeing this was what it shame it is that she has never been on Broadway. I think she would be phenomenal in a Color Purple movie. She was obviously very impressive in Dreamgirls, and I think could pull off another wonderful performance.

This girl needs to come to Broadway. She is stunning and flawless. I loved her in Dreamgirls and I think she is a terrific actress. She could definitely play Celie.

Ragtime should be revived (again) just so she could play Sarah. Imagine how phenomenal her "Daddy's Son" would be!!!!
