It was amazing! My first time seeing it....everyone involved with the production was radiant!!! Raul was by far, my favorite male lead in a musical. But, the one thing that bugged the crap outta me was when in "Side by Side", the tempo got really quick and everyone in the audience was clapping along, this really mean guy told me to stop. I mean, everyone was doing it and I was enjoying myself. And then, when Raul sang "Being Alive", of course I was crying, he told me to be quiet. I was so pissed off because he ruined my enjoyment of the last performance of this truly well done show. Anyway, my best friend Brent took out his video camcorder and taped the speech made by Raul at the end. I almost started crying again! Oh, did I mention that after Barbara Walsh sang "Ladies who Lunch", someone's cellphone went off? Barbara gave that person the nastiest look....and I couldn't help but laugh to myself. Then, back to this jerk who was sitting next to me, there were these two older people in front of us and they were whispering and he told them to "shut up". I just thought that was so disrespectful. Anyway.....I'll stop ranting about the really big jerk who sat next to me. Finally, my friend and I got to the backstage door and we met everyone! Finally, when Raul came out, I was freaking out! No famous Broadway actor has made me squeal in delight because they were right in front of me(except when I met Anthony Rapp at the Civic Theater in Allentown, I giggled like an idiot), but it was Raul who made me stutter and I couldn't believe he had his arm around my waist! I got the best picture with him. "Company" was funny, witty, and heart wrenchingly true. I'm really sad it's closing, though. Was it financial problems?
A show doesn't close after 7 months at a significant loss if it's not due to financial problems. Look at the grosses for the past 6 months. Usually filled 40-50% and that's with discount codes. barely made 200k a week.

I didn't know that it wasn't financial problems. I was just wondering what the "cause of closure" was. Do you know, "Born To Reign"?
They were losing money hand over fist... People weren't buying tickets...
...I don't even know where to start, but I guess I'll go with the obvious and say that the person who told you and others to be quiet was absolutely not out of line. Updated On: 7/3/07 at 05:41 PM
"They were losing money hand over fist... People weren't buying tickets..."
People were waiting until the closing notice was posted or the closing night to see it for the first time...
Oy vey. I don't know where to begin either, so I won't bother.
I wasn't going to say anything, siren, but yes, I have no problem shushing. Even if you're whispering. If I can hear you, it's too loud.
breathe, em, breathe
... I'm fine. People seem to think I've gone off the deep end. I'm sad, but really, I'm not going to kill myself. You all can stop worrying. This just happens to be one of those posts that I read and don't know whether to shake my head in dismay or just... laugh.
I am with you with the head shaking and laughing..
That's great that you enjoyed the show, but... um, yeah.
I currently had to deal with someone in Rite Aid who didn't know how to make change of a twenty, two screaming idiots on the subway, and breaking my cell phone, so I'm going to begin.
There's this lovely thing called the SEARCH button, and beyond that, there's also this wonderous thing they've installed on computers where you can actually scroll down the page. There's a 100 comment post already up on this topic.
Second of all, no one was claping during Side By Side. One person I saw that was clapping got a death glare from half the audience and then stopped. It's not exactly appropriate. "Side by Side" isn't exactly "You Can't Stop the Beat".
None the less... I'm glad you enjoyed the show.
oh, snap!

I would have told you to stop clapping too. Welcome to a theatre.
didn't raul try to encourage everyone to clap during opening of ACT 2? He looked AT the audience and had his hands in the air clapping for 5 seconds.. it started then died down.
... why do I not remember that at ALL? There's a lot that has totally blurred about that performance, but wow.
Yea, I didn't realize that happened either.
I don't rememeber if it did...
Raul did raise his hands and clap a little, but only about 10 people joined in for about 5 seconds. Felt very out of place. I'm not sure, but it may have been to get the 2nd act going since the audience was cheering so much. It was a blur to me too, but I do remember him clapping(like starting the beat off) and being like, what's he doing?
Might have been for the musicians, since there's no conductor. Seems more likely.
They never needed a conductor before; why would they need someone to clap the beat for them then?
PS
I never knew that Amy J. wore a wig in the show. I always assumed that was her real hair.
I thought maybe it was his way of getting the audience to shut up so they could start or something. Like, clap with me 5 times, now STOP! Cause the audience did.
