Has Shen yun ever been on tdf before? Trying to see it this spring.
Shen Yun is the money-making arm of the Falun Gong, a Chinese Armageddon cult. They gave millions to the former President, as they believe that he will bring about the End Times (which they may not be wrong about). The show is anti-evolution propaganda. Don't give them a penny.
I’ve heard it’s good tho with acrobatics and dancing and a big orchestra

Well, in THAT case....!!!

Sadly, that's just the first half -- it then turns into a recruitment presentation for Fulan Gong, including plants in the audience that go on stage to "join". It's much more than just the "cultural event" they try to portray it as.

Didn’t Paramour claim this as well?
I don't want to be rude, but I believe both IronMan and TheatreMonkey clearly stated that the show is recruitment propaganda for the Fulan Gong, a Chinese Armageddon cult.
So, I'm sure people go on stage after the show to join the Fulan Gong, a Chinese Armageddon cult.

That is correct -- it's akin to being "saved" at a old-time tent revival. Also, Fulan Gong is virulently homophobic -- not the "love the sinner, hate the sin" kind but the full out "you should not exist and are an abomination" variety. So, yeah...not a fan.
They just toured through my area a few weeks ago. They did a heavy promotion on local and cable stations since mid-December. They travel through about once every 18 months.
I know there's endless jokes about their marketing budget, but for real ... how? There's no way they're taking in so much they can spend so much, everywhere.
At least BroadwayFlash is taking a break from demanding to know what show is going to {redacted} theatre to focus on important things, like how the discount seats are for a human rights violating show.

I read something about this somewhere (I think there's another thread on this board) - I believe it comes by way of the money the cult steals from its members, combined with having its members literally walk around the cities they're in putting posters up in any business or empty wall that will allow it.
And Broadway Flash continues to portray themselves as someone without reading comprehension skills.
Oh I didn’t know that about them. But you people do realize that broadway gives money to right wingers? I’m sure that never stopped you from Going into a Nederlander house.

Donating directly to an actual, literal cult is a little different than seeing a show in a theater owned by a Republican. (And yes, some people in fact did change their spending habits upon learning Jimmy Nederlander votes red.)
Everyone who sees Shen Yun is a victim of their bait-and-switch ad campaign. You yourself are a victim by thinking it will be a great show when it's actually a mass brainwashing event.
Maybe try educating yourself on the matter.
Have you seen it before ? How do you know that if you’ve never seen it ?

Because I can read.
How exactly is dance and music brainwashing people? And they ask people to come on the stage at the end? That’s brainwashing?

All of this is news to me. I only knew their commercials were poorly translated into English and annoying.
Thanks for the head's up.
I am curious though to know more about how they recruit people after the show using plants. Do the dancers just wait around with a sign-up sheet as "random man in first row" makes a big show of getting on stage while everyone else is leaving and says "wowee I wanna dance too!" or something?
Yeah, that's my question too, Listener. I'm curious about the presentation, and how they brainwash people. I thought it was just a dance show.

I mean, music and dance have a long history as a propaganda tool, remember the “Tomorrow Belongs To Me” scene in Cabaret? It’s based on something! Music and dance stir up emotions and then those emotions are directed to a desired outcome.
At the very least, one could leave the show thinking, “how could they be so bad, the show was so beautiful?”

To actually answer the question that started this thread, it is unlikely Shen Yun will ever show up on TDF, even if it plays in venues which send allocate tickets to TDF normally.
Shen Yun plays nearly every market at a four-wall rental, where Falun Gong rents the local venue, and prices and tickets the show themselves, at whatever prices they want. This is sometimes in small print on the local venue site, sometimes not anywhere.
This is why Shen Yun can be the most expensive top ticket of the year in many smaller cities. I know at least one upstate venue where Shen Yun's top seat was more expensive than the first engagement of Book of Mormon in that venue a few weeks prior.
I don't want to go into the politics here, but if you say the phrase "Shen Yun" to anyone who works at a performing arts venue anywhere in the country, you are not going to get the nicest response.

This thread prompted me to do a quick search on Google. I have included a couple links I found that may give you additional information:

The Right Wing Cult Behind Shen Yun
It does seem to be more than just a dance show, and is instead a propaganda machine. You can do your own research to decide if you want to check it out. I think I'll treat it the way I treat Chick-fil-a and not bother with it unless it's offered for free. I also won't judge you if you decide to check it out despite it being right wing propaganda. I guess most shows have a statement to make, and you might even be the right audience for it.

That's a fair question -- I've done my research because a loved one was very interested in seeing it, and I wanted to look into it before seeing it. This is from a New Yorker article:
"The hosts started talking about a spiritual discipline called Falun Dafa, and then introduced a dance in which a beautiful young follower of Falun Dafa was kidnapped and imprisoned by Communists, who harvested her organs. “I’m hallucinating,” I whispered to my brother in the dark.
“Would everyone like to learn a little Chinese?” one of the hosts asked. He intoned a phrase and asked the audience to repeat it. “That phrase means ‘I love Shen Yun,’ ” he said."
New Yorker Article on Shen Yun
I then read more and more about Falun Gong -- it's quite something.
