Where in the bill are “conscience-based objections” defined as you state? It’s left deliberately vague and it seems intentionally so to cover the widest spectrum of discrimination against LBGT people by Florida doctors, hospitals and insurers.

I agree, that's why Floridians should fight this bill because it's a bad bill. But making gay and trans Floridians live in constant fear that they could die from a doctor refusing to save their life in the ER is wrong. We need to fight the real bad things that are happening to us and not overblown imaginings.

Speaking of safety, what about the law that allows Florida to take custody of children who are transgender? If I'm a performer with a transgender child who is traveling with me or the parent of a transgender child performer in a touring production, I would not set foot in Florida.

This isn't fear-mongering. This is a very real and present danger. DeSantis and the Republicans have shown that they will take everything to its most extreme and cruel without resistance from any elected leaders in DC or elsewhere. There's no going too far for them. Remember when "Don't Say Gay" was only in elementary schools, until it was also through high school, and then college. And how many SCOTUS judges pledged that Roe v Wade was the "settled law of the land?" We are at step two of the "first they came for..." warning and we need to start acting as such.

That's not what emilyfaye48 was doing. They were just pointing out that some of the most extreme things said about this specific bill are inaccurate. I think that's important because, in addition to causing unnecessary fear among the LGBT community in Florida, it gives our enemies a talking point: "they're obviously not even reading the bills they're protesting." There is just so much to be alarmed about, in this bill and so many others in red states, that it makes sense to be careful about this.

I absolutely agree. Just to be clear, I'm not advocating caution at all in terms of how we need to fight this menace. I think it's totally fair to argue that the bill is likely a forerunner to something worse to come during the next legislative session, and that in the meantime it will have a chilling effect on everyone - both things that have turned out to be true for "Don't Say Gay." I'm just defending the one poster who urged accuracy in describing the actual content of the bill, and was accused of "sugarcoating."

The reason why I’m here is because I’m currently involved in an internship! Which hopefully will lead to opening doors for moving here permanently! I am doing what I feel is best for myself.
