I hate to make a separate thread for this but, as some have pointed out in other threads, there seems to be a growing idea in the Tonys prognostication world that the Great Comet may miss the Best Musical field...
I've seen a few accounts now listing the show as being on the bubble behind Groundhog Day and War Paint with each citing the issue/lawsuit with the producers that was resolved months ago as the main reason not the show's natural divisive style.
I know several of you have Comet in YOUR predictions but not near the top...as someone who thinks the show is his favorite he's ever seen on stage how likely am I to be crushed tomorrow?

I don't think it will miss but if it does be comforted in the fact that the Tonys are clearly a load of nonsense if they can't nominate the best musical of the year in one of four slots and that any voting committee that doesn't see that doesn't have any accolades worth receiving anyway.
It's a sure bet it will be nominated. It is an acclaimed, innovative, and successful major production.
Anyone who says otherwise either is stirring the pot (Riedel) or just throwing stuff at the wall.
I'd be jaw-on-the-ground shocked if it didn't get a Best Musical nomination, as well as Director, Costumes, Set, Lighting, and probably Choreography. But it's possible that it could get shut out of any or all of the acting categories, just given the embarrassment of riches among the contenders.
I don't think it will miss out on a best musical nomination. In a season with many shows considered only so-so, it received largely positive reviews, with notices for individual performances and technical elements.
Remember last year, when people predicted massive Hamilton backlash and upsets at the Tonys because of limited seating for voters? Look how that turned out.
Not at all

Admittedly, I'm a big fan and think the show is in a class by itself this year. Would hope that that lawsuit is long forgotten by now and would hate to see the show not get recognition tomorrow. But as others have said, in reality all this stuff is just peoples' opinions.
Even critics that didn't love the writing gave high marks to the direction and design. If War Horse could get nominated for and win Best Play largely on the strength of its technical elements, I have no doubt Great Comet will be nominated for Best Musical tomorrow.

Great Comet is not my fave at all, but I'd be absolutely shocked if it wasn't nominated for best new musical, score, book, direction and the technical categories. The acting categories are a different matter, apart from the top 2 or 3 faves, no one can predict the nominees.

IMO only DEH could best Great Comet for Best Musical as win. These 2 are locks for nominations

JudyDenmark, how did you like the show from front mezzanine? (I'm curious, given your lousy seating experience the first time and decision to give it another try.)
I am not an expert on the Tony awards, so I can't reassure anyone who liked the show as much as I did. But I would definitely be surprised if it wasn't nominated for Best Musical, Best Director, score, all the technical categories, supporting actor.
The other acting categories could go either way. The show could do very well, bringing along coin flip possibilities like Groban, Benton, and Gray (the most likely of the featured women, IMO).

Should CFA fans be worried? Lol
I cannot think of one reason the Tony Committee would snub TGC - in fact, I think it will get the most nominations of any show tomorrow morning.
The Ars lawsuit concept is so ridiculous, mainly because Ars stands to win a Tony for Great Comet. It's actually something GC has going for it-- goodwill for Ars Nova.
Comet is a lock. So is DEH. Come From Away and Groundhog Day are probably next on the list. Everyone else should be biting their nails. If I was War Paint I certainly wouldn't be counting any chickens.
I am amazed by this weird sudden last minute backlash after months and month of raves and praise. There is no doubt that it's going to rake in the nominations. It's not gonna rake in the WINS but I think it will be hands down walking away the most noms because ONE they are likely to have an performer in each category (MAYBE 2 in featured actress) and TWO it's going to excel in the technical categories. I dare say it might be the only double digit winner tomorrow morning.
I wouldn't freak out even if no one thought it would be nominated for Best Musical.
But I think it's a given it will.
LOL at this thread............
12 Nominations later and the most nominated show of the year goes to...
