#1Show Advisory—Be Aware —Dust at Next Door at NYTW
Posted: 9/4/19 at 5:14am

So I saw Dust last night at Next Door at NYTW. While Im not usually a fan of one person shows, I think this was very well done and I did like it. However, this show has many themes and parts that may be upsetting to a lot of people, so Id really advise doing research on the show before you consider getting a ticket. The actor is wonderful, but the show is very dark and could be very upsetting. Please do research before seeing this play.

Are you seriously suggesting that people look into a play rather than just blindly buying a ticket? That’s just wacky

P.s. you could have put this warning in the thread that already exists for this production

I could have-but I didn’t. I feel it made sense to make a new thread because don’t you ever just scroll past some comments to read the newest one without reading the ones before? It happens and I wanted to make sure people were aware. Move on.

If I had commented on the previous thread about this show, my comment would have most likely gone ignored. I commented that the duet Glinda and Elphaba sing is called "What Is This Feeling?" and the two most recent comments are saying the same thing. People ignore my comments. So yes, I did feel it was necessary.

There's not really a ton of "research" to be done. If you look at the show's NYTW page -- the same page that links to buying tickets -- it warns that the show "has an age recommendation of 18+; it contains themes of a graphic nature and includes depictions of self-harm and suicide." In addition, the second line of the description talks about suicide, and it's generally pretty plain what the show is about.

This 'advisory' feels really unnecessary -- it's not like the show is trying to hide the fact that it's about suicide, or that it talks graphically about the subject. (I did see the show, I did think it was rattling and emotional, but I also knew exactly what I was getting into.) I highly doubt anyone is going to buy tickets without at least reading the ticketing page, and that page alone makes it clear what the subject matter is.

All that said, I would definitely recommend seeing this show. It is hard to watch at parts, but is excellent and deserves all of the praise it has gotten in previous runs.

People tend to ignore my comments which is why I found it necessary to make this post.

My only $.02 would be to put the title of the referenced show in the thread title...

You want people to notice your comments?  Then make a notable contribution. All you’ve done so far is create clickbait

How can you tell if they are reading them or ignoring them? Not everything necessitates a reply.

Yeah, but there are posts that should be replied to.   There are plenty of people on here who don't reply, even when they are the one asking for advice or asking for a question answered. One doesn't know if they read your suggestion/answer or just plainly ignored it.  A mere acknowledgement or maybe a thank you is common courtesy.

This is the problem. This board isn't about you or your opinions. Its great you contribute to conversations and participate in the board, but no need to start a new thread for every thought you have. I appreciate the heads up, but it does belong in the existing thread. You also just have no way of knowing if your comments are ignored. Not trying to beat a dead horse, but I think this is feedback you need. Especially for a show like this that doesn't have a ton of discussion already going.

If someone pointed out potentially worrisome subject matter for a show, it seems the only people who would reply are the people who would need/care to know about that in advance. If I wasn't concerned about that issue, I'm not sure why I would need to acknowledge it, and one imagines the majority of people would be in that group. Sort of like the people who want to know if and when there are gunshots in a show. It is important info, just for a small % of people.

Magictodo123 wasn't talking specifically about this thread,( of people ignoring her comments),  my interpretation was she/he was speaking in general about their posts in other threads. My post was also speaking in general to the comment "Not everything necessitates a reply".

LOL I literally mentioned above that people ignored my comment about “What Is This Feeling” On The thread about songs about jealousy. Thanks for proving my point!

And for whomever said it, I don’t create a new thread every time I have a new thought so that’s unnecessary.

People don't need an advisory on art. We can handle ourselves in life, thank you. You are clearly very young because only people under 20 years NEED people to acknowledge everything they say and can't deal with people not replying. You assume your comments are ignored because people don't respond to you directly?

Jesus Christ.

Wait - Mike should scroll on by, but not you?  If you don't like a poster, you can block them and never see another post they make.  Easy peasy.   Your need to be be "it" on these boards is a bit tiring.   I don't think MY posts get much notice - big whoop.   I'm here for information and insight, not to have my ego stroked.

These boards are not always friendly, that is true. But whining every time someone calls you out on something or disagrees with you is exhausting.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

As you’ve said before, if you don’t like it, keep scrolling! Rules don’t seem to apply to you. I’m not trying to be downright rude but when there is clear hypocrisy here, it’s hard to not comment. You get mad at everyone for being the “thread police” so why are you telling me to keep scrolling and not to comment?
