Hi All! I'm visiting Nov. 23-25. I'm seeing The Glass Menagerie and am looking for a second or third show suggestion. On, off, off-off, anything works as long as it is worth it. Any suggestions?

Since we know you so well and what kind of things you enjoy, this should be easy!

Peter and the Starcatcher (New World Stages)
Pippin
Kinky Boots
Once
Newsies

But Jordan is right...this is just a list of popular shows: what do you like? what do you hate? what have you already seen?

(Menagerie is wonderful. btw.)

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

My apologies. Y'all are right. Show suggestions Well, I'm currently an MFA candidate in the southeast so while I try to stay on top of the scene, it's hard. Last trip up, I saw Pippin, Kinky, and Cinderella. Enjoyed Sleep No More, Dogfight, Starcatcher, Bonnie & Clyde, Newsies, WIT, Other Desert, The Color Purple, Aida, BOM, Priscilla, and others in the past. Love a mix of fun and acclaimed.

My two favorite shows right now are Fun Home (a chamber musical, at the Public; running until Dec. 1) and Twelfth Night, at the Belasco. They're very different, of course, but both are impeccably executed, and the writing is pretty good too! Show suggestions

Natasha Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 was a great night of theater I won't forget anytime soon. It's truly a show I think anyone who enjoys theater should experience.

Fun Home is really amazing. I liked Bad Jews as well as Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812. However, Fun Home really shouldn't be missed.

“Fun Home” and “Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812.” No doubt, my two favorite currently running shows and both offering unique and fulfilling experiences.

While planning my trip to NY this week I have been reading reviews here. The hype for Natasha and Pierre caught my attention, and last week the cast album went on sale as a download. Thank-god I downloaded and listened to it. I think perhaps the entertaining way in which the show is performed is what has given people a positive impression, because the music is god awful. I crossed this off my list of to sees, but if it does interest you I was checking the Telecharge site and there were lots and lost of tickets available for many dates so it`s not selling out at $125 and it has been at TKTS at 50% off everyday for the last couple weeks. If you want a matinee the Brooklyn TKTS booth sells matineee tickets the day before.

inception, It's a shame that you let your impression of the cast recording prevent you from experiencing the show, especially when you yourself say that the performance itself is probably why so many people are raving about it. I think if you saw the show you would be able to appreciate the music more. I hope you give yourself the opportunity to see it!

GilmoreGirl02-I liked the experience of seeing "Natasha" but agree about the music. It isn't that memorable. It's a neat experience, but it doesn't have much staying power.

After Midnight has gotten rave reviews and seems like a really enjoyable show. It's on my list to see, since anyone who has seen it highly recommends it.

DavidValdez - based upon your described taste and what you've already seen I'd say "After Midnight" for a musical or "Twelfth Night" for a play.

I have had the music from THE GREAT COMET stuck in my head all week since buying the album. When one song finally plays itself out by repetition, another melody sticks and the whole album has wormed its way into my unconscious. I highly recommend it for an outside-the-box type show. MENAGERIE is a truly beautiful production, and you will enjoy it immensely... if you're looking for a breezy 90 minutes AFTER MIDNIGHT is indeed tremendous song and dance showmanship. TWELFTH NIGHT is high on my personal must-see list, as I adore Shakespeare's Globe Theatre Co. and Mark Rylance. And Stephen Fry.

What you take of my tastes is up to you, but enjoy what you pick and have a great trip!

Words don't deserve that kind of malarkey. They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good anymore…I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little.

I think that Fun Home, Matilda, and After Midnight are all MUST-SEEs. I would pick from those three what best suits your likings!
