I am looking for show tunes with a travel theme. They can either be about traveling or about a particular location or culture (i.e. Bali Hai)
Classic or contemporary is fine.
Just throw some ideas out there!
Gettin' Out Of Town - 42ND STREET
I Love To Travel - THE FROGS
Which is now going to be in my head for the rest of the day. Doh!
New York, New York! from ON THE TOWN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6v7QfCxuvLo
New York, New York!
It's a helluva town!
We've got one day here and not another minute
To see the famous sights!
We'll find the romance and danger waiting in it
Beneath the Broadway lights;
But we've hair on our chests
So what we like the best are the nights
Sights! Lights! Nights!
New York, New York, a helluva town.
The Bronx is up, but the Battery's down.
The people ride in a hole in the groun'.
New York, New York, it's a helluva town!
That's my "favorite city" in the whole WIDE WORLD!

Then to Massachusetts we will go
We will buy dishes there
Mr. Laurence:
If you say come with me off to Massachusetts

We will buy dishes there
Maybe even two sets
Beth & Mr. Laurence:
Buy the finest china then we'll dine a while on crepe suzettes
Beth:

Mr. Laurence:
Yes we're off
Beth & Mr. Laurence:

To where the shops are sweet
We will have no regrets!

"A Little Traveling Music Please" from One Night Stand

"Big Time" from The Will Rogers Follies

"On the Twentieth Century" from On the Twentieth Century

"Atlantic City" from Ragtime?
I lived there -- and it's true. NO ONE will find you there.

"I'm Leavin' Texas" from Best Little Whorehouse Goes Public.
My brother lived in san fransisco - Elegies
Ireland - Legally Blonde
Bright New Day - Blood Brothers
Anything by Michael Bubble or Josh Gropin.
Sur la Plage - THE BOY FRIEND
"Life Is Like A Train" from ON THE TWENTIETH CENTURY
Come to think of it, "Go Home Train" is actually an anti-traveling song. Ah well.
There is an odd one in the new Tell Me On A Sunday CD where she is on the plane, and it takes off and the whole in-flight thing and landing.
Here are some that may be more "other location" specific, more than travel, but...
Barcelona, from Company
By the Sea, from Sweeney Todd (does that count?)
A Summer in Ohio, from Last Five Years
Santa Fe, from Rent
Oklahoma, from DRS
Somewhere That's Green, from LSOH
Sail Away from Sail Away.
"Journey On" from RAGTIME- but you have to in Battery Park while taking the ferry to the Statue of Libery or just taking the ferry to Staten Island..I did this and there's some dramatic ambience to it.
"Suspended in Time" from XANADU-while youre on a plane, looking thru the little window to the clouds (it has to be day time, and of course you have to be seated by the window) its very dramatic..I have tried this too..while going on my plane ride to New Orleans last year!) its a very nice feeling!
