I really like the idea of the disguise theme. I'll definitely have to use it sometime! :)

THIS WEEK'S THEME: songs having to do with athletics, from Damn Yankees to the Ascott Gavotte--note not simply sports but athletics--runners, polo players, cyclists, etc. NOT dancers, only bc I've done dance based shows before.
I have some ideas, but I want to hear what you come up with! So go to it! I should say that I SADLY cannot play "What A Game" bc of the racial slurs and cursing.
The Bicycle Song HIGH SPIRITS
The Tennis Song CITY OF ANGELS
The Baseball Game FALSETTOS
and check out the scores for GOOD NEWS, ALL AMERICAN and GOLDEN BOY
Sondheim's Por Le Sport (heard in MARRY ME A LITTLE)
Six Months Out of Every Year DAMN YANKEES
Another National Anthem ASSASSINS (bit of a stretch but the lyrics keep mentioning the ballpark)
These might fit with a little squeeze:
Whipped Into Shape - Legally Blonde
She Likes Basketball - Promises Promises (well, it's mentioned)
I Love What I'm Doing - Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (is it all in the staging)
Get Your Head in the Game - High School Musical
Michael Jordon's Ball - Full Monty
and then there's The Game in Damn Yankees which is and isn't about the game.
I don't know if it's in the stage version, but "Ain't There Anyone Here For Love?" is from the film version of "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and it discusses athletics.
"What a Game" from "Ragtime"
Don't know if shooting counts as a sport (it is an Olympic one), but "You Can't Get a Man With A Gun" from "Annie Get Your Gun".
T-E-A-M (The Baseball Game) from You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
These two are a stretch, but in case it helps...
Nothing from A Chorus Line (Bobsledding...in San Juan. Anyone?)
Ya Got Trouble from The Music Man (Pool is a sport on ESPN2. That's my justification)

Hello my lovelies! After a month hiatus I'm back to do new shows and I need your help!
THIS WEEK'S THEME: Royalty; song sung by or about Kings, Queens, Princes, Princesses, Dukes, Duchesses, Vicomtes, Dons, Doges, etc. (The point is, it doesn't just have to be English nobility.)
To those of you who have often wanted to listen to the show, I'm unsure whether I should release that information as I use my real name and refer to locations on the air.
SONGS ABOUT KINGS
'I Just can't wait to be King' - Lion King
'Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows)' - Joseph
'King of my Heart' - Joseph (Added for the 2007 London Revival)
'King of New York' - Newsies
'If I were King of the Forest' - Wizard of Oz
'King Herod's Song' - Jesus Christ Superstar
SONGS ABOUT QUEENS (...hehe)
'Dancing Queen' - Mamma Mia
'Killer Queen' - We will rock you
SONGS ABOUT ROYALTY
'Another Little Victory' - Betty Blue Eyes
'On the steps of the palace' - Into the Woods
'He's a very nice prince' - Into the Woods
'Castle on a cloud' - Les Mis
'Liaisons' - A Little Night Music
Also, you could probably work in anything from Camelot, The King and I or Spamalot.
Stand-by Joined: 8/10/11
Also look at Call Me Madam and Once Upon a Mattress
You can basically use the entire little mermaid soundtrack since they are all royalty for the mostly part, but some more specific sons are:
"I want the good times back" Mermaid
"If Only (quartet)" -Mermaid
"Part of Your World" memaid
"One Step Closer" Mermaid
"Beyond My WildestnDreams" Mermaid
"This is how a dream comes true" Shrek
"Morning Person" Shrek
"Who I'd Be" Shrek
"I know it's Today" Shrek
"The Tale" A Tale of Two Cities
"The Way it Ought to Be" A Tale of Two Cities
"Two Fairy Tales", from Marry Me A Little.
You can use almost anything from R&H's Cinderella.
Gonna throw some long shots out:
"Malajusted Jester" - The Court Jester
"King's Dilemma" - Victor/Victoria
"The Prince of Humbug" - Barnum
"The King of Old Broadway" - The Producers
There's also a whole Disney medley about royalty in DISNEY'S ON THE RECORD. It seamlessly blends "The Walrus and the Carpenter/I Wanna Be Like You/Prince Ali/I Just Can't Wait To Be King/Lavender Blue". Such a cool show. There are some other tracks you can take from that, too. "Someday My Prince Will Come/Once Upon A Dream" and more.
Happy Tony Day! Thanks so much for your help with last week, I think it turned out very well.
THIS WEEK'S THEME: Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes; any songs mentioning parts of the body (often) so songs like "Your Feets Too Big" or "The Nose Song", etc. NOTE: I already did a show with songs featuring eyes, so I won't want anything about eyes.

I'm late to this thread, and replying to a reply in the middle of it but.... Joan-something posted a recommendation for "I Want" songs.... every song, when performed by a good actor, should either be an "I Want" or an "I Need" song.... this is what makes a song active ... if the character/actor doesn't want or need anything, it is a dead performance, and bad acting.
Falling Slowly - Once
Of course, jdrye, but that doesn't change the fact that an "I want" song in a musical is a term of art in libretto construction, meaning a central character's song expressing the objective through line, what he or she wants out of life, or thinks he or she does - "a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air," "somewhere that's green," "my own morning," "to be a rich man," "something coming, don't know where, don't know when" " etc.
This is something apart from the fact that any acted song should have an intention.
When Bonnie sings "Buddy Beware" in "Anything Goes" it reveals who she is and what she wants but it is not an "I want" song defining the protagonist's need, whereas Reno's "I Get A Kick Out of You" is. When Fanny and Nick sing "I Want to Be Seen With You" that is not an "I want" song because it concerns a momentary desire. When Fanny sings "I'm the Greatest Star" it defines what the protagonist wants and what the show is about, although "Don't Rain On My Parade" does as well because Fanny wants both love and a career.

THIS WEEK'S THEME: Hooray U.S.A.! In honor of the 4th of July, I want songs that glorify America and what it means to be American. We can afford some gross flag-waving once a year! I know Broadway's full of these songs, so let's see what we come up with! :) From "Yankee Doodle Dandy" to "America" we're sure to have a great show!
Also, have a happy Independence Day!
The ultimate America-cheerleading song would have to be "Tomorrow" from Annie, especially when considered in the context of the story.
And, when tomorrow happens, we can celebrate with "It's Today" from Mame.
