Oh wow! I would be freaking out over him and unable to concentrate on the show. So I'm glad I saw it a few weeks ago and wasn't sitting next to him, because it was an amazing show.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

You can quote Sandra Bernhard to him: "Honey, if you have to, you can come sit here on my face. As long as I have a face you'll always have a seat."
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
You should thank him, for doing what you only wish you could do in this lifetime
I'm not attacking you, Q, but comments like these really vex me. I just never understand comments where someone (not just you) alleges that because someone has a less than glowing opinion of someone or something that it's due to jealousy or because of a failure on the part of the opinion holder. Do you really believe that? If so, does that mean your personal antipathy to Patti LuPone (she was the first example that comes to mind because you have made many a snide comment about her on here) stem from the fact that you are just green with envy that she has a better life than you?
No, no. Q(ueef) is right. I'm jealous I can't perform a boring predictable medley when a far superior option was available. But I realize that it's just my own inadequacies and my feelings of never having been accepted as a young boy that have since transferred themselves into my belittling others whom I deem superior to me in every single way. NPH isn't an asshole, I am.

And that's because none of us got enough love in our childhoods....
I don't think anyone is an asshole here, though. I thought you were commenting on the opening number of the Tonys, not NPH personally. For the record, I kinda shrugged when I heard about the choice of opening, too. And I'm totally excited about seeing the cinemacast cause I love me some Company. I just thought it an odd choice.
I absolutely love NPH in How I Met Your Mother. I'd totally flip out if I were sitting next to him. But I am rather upset that he wants to do the medley over the "Hello!" idea.

Ok, ok. You're right, my comment was completely inappropriate and out of line.
All it ammounts to is this - I can't stand Jordan, and I had a brief lapse of lashing out at someone, regardless of the discussion. Obviously, there's no point to that except making me look like an idiot.
And, contrary to what some here might think, that actually IS something I try to avoid.
SOOOOOO, sincere apologies to Jordan (and yes, even with my above statement, I DO mean I am sorry.)
Ultimately, it's just another sign (how many should it take?!?) that this is NOT the venue for me.
I saw the show last Sunday and the only celeb. I saw was Larry Kramer himself. It was a pleasure to be able to say hi and tell him how much admiration I have for him and how relevant his play has remained. Getting doused with a little milk from the scene near the end only made the scene that much more immediate and involving to me.
I am not crazy about him hosting the Tonys again but had I been sitting next to Mr. Harris, I would have be chatting with him and not on my smart phone posting on BWW. JMO
1) "but had I been sitting next to Mr. Harris, I would have be chatting with him and not on my smart phone posting on BWW. JMO"
Well like a lot of "celebrities", they came in right as the lights went down and left during intermission.
2) "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the show?"
It's a remarkable show that never ceases to amaze me. I honestly don't know how Mantello does that 8 times a week. And I don't say that about a lot of performances.
3) And thank you, Q. Thank you for your lovely backhanded apology. Kind of like me telling you that even though I wish your Mother would have gotten a late term abortion at 8 months so you would have fully felt it, I'm sure you're a wonderful person. And by saying something negative about me, by your own admission, doesn't that mean you're jealous of, well, me? You and I have never said anything to each other so your odd hatred of me is probably IS that sign you need to pack up and get the hell out of dodge. Don't let the virtual door hit your ass on the way out. Oh, but I'm sure you're really nice or something like that. Updated On: 6/4/11 at 09:06 AM
Neil Patrick Harris: Saw The Normal Heart tonight. Riveting. I'm a mess. All gay people should be required to see it. All straight people will be changed by it.
Normal Heart: Joe Mantello gives the most riveting, honest, passionate, brilliant performance I've seen in years. I am so deeply impressed.
David Burtka: Just saw the NORMAL HEART. I am gutted. So powerful, I can't stop crying.
