Mario Lopez has been offered a role in the Broadway company of The Producers, but has ultimately turned it town.
As per TV Guide, an E! News:
"Mario Puts Dirty Dancing Rumor in the Corner In an interview with E! News, Dancing with the Stars' Mario Lopez revealed that he has been offered a gig in Broadway's The Producers — one he won't take, though, seeing as "I really can't sing; I sound like a choking cat," he admits."
One wonders what role he would have played and why he would have been offered a role if he sounds so horrible.
Add me to the Christian Slater camp. That would have been...interesting.
But when did New Hampshire become--Such a backward wasteland of seatbelt hating crazies?...I mean, only 40 people actually live there. The others are just visitors who come for the tax-free liquor and three inches of novelty coastline. John Hodgeman on The Daily Show (1-30-07)
lol I thought you meant Christian Slater, too. I was like "what the hell are you talking about? Misnomered title?"
Well, at least he didn't do it to make them money. I'm guessing the producers is out within a year and Young Frankenstein takes the St. James, which will then be renamed "The Mel Brooks."

Lopez wouldn't have worked anyway. There weren't any darj skinned mexicans working on broadway back then.
Do you know how many things are, oh so wrong, in your short pseudo-statement?
-First of all he is American. His parents' background is Mexican. -How do you know he wouldn't have worked? Are you psychic? -We don't know which character he was approached to play... but, just as an example, Jai Rodriguez was up there...oh surprise, it worked! - By "no dark skinned Mexicans working on Broadway back then" you exactly mean...?
I could keep going, but not worth more time...
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
Question is, what takes over at the Mel Brooks Theater (formerly St James) when Young Frankenstein closes? Dracula: Dead and Loving it? Robin Hood: Men in Tights? Spaceballs? History of the World Part 1?
Slater in "The Producers"? Oh lord what's next...Dustin Diamond as Jean Valjean? Tiffani Amber Thiessan as Elphaba? Maybe I should stop before some producers start getting ideas.
WickedGreek they should rename the St. Jmaes Theater but they should call it the Madeline Kahn theater. In memory to this legendary star of the stage and screen. She played there in On The Twentieth Century and Young Frankenstein is one of her greatest films. It would be so nice to have Broadway honor her so. If there is any actress who deserves it is her. I and I am sure many others miss her so much.
With all due respect to Kahn (who I LOVED), she played in 20th Century for about two months. Also, there are many other actresses more deserving of having a theater named after them...Mermon and Mary Martin immediately come to mind.
