That person who recently made a list of the alleged theater assignments for upcoming shows claimed this was going to the Shubert next season. (The Shubert Org is a lead producer of it, along with Neil Meron & Bob Greenblatt).
Brandon Victor Dixon is doing this show. The workshop presentation is a happy medium of doing a full out of town try out and nothing. The invited public viewing is to support the show before loading in to the Shubert theatre

Playland said: "i saw Some Like It Hot in an open rehearsal at Stage 42 yesterday.IT WAS AMAZING! J. Harrison Ghee will win a Tony. I can't wait until it opens in the Fall so I can take my family to see it."
Let's get some more substantive details from anyone who attended, please! How does it differ from the source material? How's the score and book? Are there things that are trying to pander to 2022 audiences?
I thought Osgood/ Daphene romance was beautifully handled. There was never a "nobaby's perfect" moment played for laugh's but just a couple who fell in love without regard to gender.

Interesting...
I have a feeling that Tootsie and Doubtfire have "poisoned the well" for SLIH as it were. If SLIH was being released entirely independent of them, I think that people would be more willing to consider it on its own merits, instead of dismissing it as another "Cishet guy in a dress" comedy. True SLIH is probably the defining example of the genre, but it has nuances and complications (Joe disguising himself as another male character, Jerry becoming increasingly committed to his female persona, Osgood's nonchalant acceptance of Jerry's true identity) that a talented writer/director/cast could really emphasize and play with. I also feel that people are refusing to acknowledge the significance of having the non-binary J. Harrison Ghee as one of the leads because of his role in Doubtfire...
