2013 is the 15th anniversary of the Mendes production, which was supposedly the catalyst. But although it seems absurd, 2013 is already waning if you're trying to put on a show!
(unless, of course, you have a barn...)

IF it happens, and IF it's going to be at Studio 54, it won't be soon - not until fall at the very earliest.
This is the thread you're talking about

And seeing how that was only 3 weeks ago, you haven't left a lot of time for "things" to develop.
I didn't hear the original interview and therefore don't know the tone or the wording of the question -- but it certainly could have been more of an IF question that one steeped in reality.
Note: I don't pretend to have any insider info at all. I would love to see this brought back.

Just read this interview with Alan Cumming, this sounds rather promising...
What’s next for you?
I’m doing another show on Broadway after The Good Wife season ends. It starts rehearsals the day after my 49th birthday, so I’ll be entering my 50th year dancing my tits off and being a sexpot.
What’s the show?
I’m not allowed to say. It’s something I did before and we’re doing it again.

#6Soooo when's that cabaret revival happening?
Posted: 4/18/13 at 3:23amHe says the day AFTER his 49th birthday....so that would bring us to 2014. Your first year is the year leading up to your 1st birthday, not starting with your first birthday.

While you're waiting, amuse yourself thusly.
Now there's no way I'll be able to take Macbeth seriously.

Roundabout is waiting for a name. The likelihood of it happening is good.
But from a PR angle, this has been a failure. They need to make some sort of announcement rather than letting every theatrical news outlet talk about it.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 10:58amI hate it when shows have to rely on a name to get it up and running. The people aren't going to see the show, they are going to see the celebrity. This isn't always the case but i think it just degrades Theatre. The celebrity has every right to be in the show but Sometimes i just wish the producers had enough balls to let the work speak for itself.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 11:16amYeah I know. Broadway really isn't what it use to be. Just cause a celebrity is doing the part doesn't necessarily mean they will be better than someone. Audiences should be at the theater to see the Theatre! Not just to see some celebrity Live. If you want to do that then go to their concert or stalk them on Hollywood BLVD or something. Theatre is suppose to be Art and if the celebrity fits the part and knocks it out of the park then by all means do the show but i wish the fans were seeing the show because of the show and not just to see someone like Raven or Ricky Martin.

Remarkably, theatre exists on streets other than Broadway.
You want to see innovative theatrical art? It exists. It's always existed. Broadway has seldom been about the art, in all its years. It's about lucrative entertainment. If that happens to coincide with real art, all the better. But it doesn't happen often.
Don't talk about "what Broadway used to be," when you weren't around to see it. And don't limit your scope to what is playing on a dozen blocks in one city.
Downtown, uptown, in Chicago, in DC, in Berlin and London and Japan there is amazing theatre happening.

"You want to see innovative theatrical art? It exists. It's always existed. Broadway has seldom been about the art, in all its years. It's about lucrative entertainment"
You misunderstood me. There is obviously art outside of Broadway but what i was saying was Broadway is ART and should be treated as such. Live Art has never left. Of course "Art" is such a subjective term anyway that no one can really put a definition on it.
"Don't talk about "what Broadway used to be," when you weren't around to see it. And don't limit your scope to what is playing on a dozen blocks in one city
I may not have been around to actually SEE it but i do know that Broadway has changed in the last few years. Its naive to say Broadway is what it use to be in the 60's or 80's or whatever. It has drastically changed.
"Downtown, uptown, in Chicago, in DC, in Berlin and London and Japan there is amazing theatre happening"
Of course there is. I never said there wasn't. On the contrary I have heard a few broadway performers say they love playing to Chicago audiences more than New York. London is also the place that brought us some of the best best musicals ever created. Art isn't just in new york and i never said it was. Art can't be tamed it is everywhere.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 12:24pmBroadway has been mass entertainment and always has been. Vaudeville, follies, musicals, farces. It has been about making money. What made money in the 30s does not make money in the 60s which doesn't make money now. Just as summer blockbuster films or paperback novels are designed to be lucrative and entertaining. They have their merits but high art most of these things are not.

Broadway has changed, but the whole world has changed. If Broadway didn't it would have gone the way of the dinosaurs.
#24Soooo when's that cabaret revival happening?
Posted: 6/16/13 at 1:10pmI don't think that Broadway itself has changed much, but the culture around it has. Sadly, the aesthetics of the shows have changed, but the motives behind them remain the same.
