Regarding Roundabout's lack of announcement, there was the recent New York Times article about Emma Stone's sudden departure from the show in which Roundabout has a quote about the revival, more or less admitting that it's happening albeit in a very oblique way:
A spokesman for Roundabout, meanwhile, confirmed for the first time on Thursday that the “Cabaret” revival was indeed in the works – it had yet to be officially announced – and that the Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes would stage the revival, with Rob Marshall as co-director and choreographer. The two men collaborated similarly on an earlier Roundabout revival of “Cabaret” that ran from 1998 to 2004. Mr. Cumming and Natasha Richardson won Tonys for their performances as the M.C. and Sally in that production.
The theater spokesman, asked about Ms. Stone, said in a statement, “Roundabout is in the casting phase and exploring if the production can come together with the most ideal cast.”

#32Soooo when's that cabaret revival happening?
Posted: 6/16/13 at 2:34pmExactly. Would we wanna see Kelli O'Hara as Sally? Heck no. Laura as Sally. Same thing. I'm all for branching out and trying new roles, but it's just not the right fit for Laura.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 2:41pmI'd actually love to see Kirsten Dunst as Sally.

xxdrewboy85xx, I assure you that Carey Mulligan is either not available or not interested. She was undoubtedly one of the first ideas explored for Sally.
I continue to hold out hope that they'll cast Lauren Ambrose, but if they end up with an unorthodox Broadway name like Laura Osnes, I'd be much more interested in seeing someone like Celia Keenan-Bolger (who played the role in college).

Dunst would be terrific if she can manage to feel comfortable on stage, no idea what her stage experience is but even if she doesn't have any, Mendes and Marshall could get her there, for all we know she could be the next Scarlett Johansson. That's an inspired choice, Jordan.
Honestly, I can't imagine that Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall and even Alan Cumming couldn't convince a top notch star to be involved. Still, if they somehow can't, Laura Osnes is not the solution; another Laura, Laura Benanti, would be much more appropriate.

Well what about Scarlett as Sally? I could certainly see that. Has it been tossed around before?

Ljay, Jordan, me and a few others have fantasy cast Johansson before. I don't know what her status is in reality, but when I saw Johansson and Cumming presenting at the Tonys with Johansson wearing a Fosse/CHICAGO-inspired outfit I wondered if they were hinting at something.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 2:58pmCarey Mulligan seems to be turning down quite a bit these days, she reportedly just denied the "Rodham" movie.
#42Soooo when's that cabaret revival happening?
Posted: 6/16/13 at 3:01pmReally, ucjrdude902? That's a shock, I thought she was a done deal for RODHAM, it sucks she won't be involved in it. Wonder if she's a bit exhausted from the GATSBY promotion and madness, especially since now she has to also promote INSIDE LLEWYN DAVIS. She'd be so good as Sally.

Posted: 6/16/13 at 3:02pmMy only concern about Scarlett is that she comes across too "hard", even for Sally.
#44Soooo when's that cabaret revival happening?
Posted: 6/16/13 at 3:03pmHmmm. I think that is the quality that makes her perfect for it. I'm sure she could tone it down a bit, if needed.
