Re: Sorry Betsy Wolfe, Worst Audrey Ever

On paper, they are perfect for these roles, so I would place the blame on Mayer (whose production was never as funny as I’d like for Little Shop imho) and Austin Regan, the show’s resident director who rehearses all the replacements. Quality control on a long-running show can live and die with its resident director.

Hot Take: I don’t find her all that appealing vocally. Shes fine but doesn’t knock my socks off. I take issue with her nomination for RAGTIME in the way I did for Joy Woods in GYPSY.

I would actually pay a mint to see Stephanie Hsu as Audrey. She just played the kewpie doll ingenue in ROCKY HORROR and has killer comedic instinct
"

Yeah, Lewis didn't impress me much in RAGTIME either, but she seemed the most likely person who fits the hypothetical descriptor ("up-and-coming recent Tony nominee"). I'd love to see Hsu at some point, but I believe she has film a TV commitments. Christiani Pitts would be great too, and given the recent grosses for TWO STRANGERS, I'm guessing she'll be available soon...

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

Nichelle is a gorgeous vocalist and would be a fantastic Audrey. Her singing during The Tiny Desk concert was other worldly. Such talent. Can't wait to see what she does next. And Joy Woods is a rising star with a perfect voice. Well-deserved nominations for both of these women.
