Per Playbill, for 30 weeks beginning next June. Stroman states that Stemp has first right of refusal on the Broadway transfer. Fingers crossed!

Please let this finally lead to a Broadway revival!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

There's so much new stuff happening on the West End next summer - I can't wait to see this again. It would be wonderful if Stemp could transfer with this in 2024 or so.

I’m guessing that may be the reason behind his limited West End run. There’d be enough time for him to take a break, then open this in either fall of 23 or winter of 24.

It's coming to Broadway...the Gershwin catalog starts entering the coming years so the estate has been trying to get a revival of Crazy for You up and running before its score and Girl Crazy enter public domain. As once Girl Crazy and it's score enter public domain, theoretically a smart producer can just produce a production of Crazy for You with enough slight modifications to claim its just new adaptation Girl Crazy and not have to pay any money to get the rights from the estate.

Happy about this. Love Tony Yazbeck, but Charlie has been my top choice for this revival in New York.

He will be with the West End production for tonight the whole run, until January 2024. Maybe they’ll try and get it in for Spring 2024.

I’m not a copyright expert but I’m fairly certain even though the songs themselves may enter public domain Crazy For You will not. The book and the specific orchestrations and arrangements of the songs will still very much be protected. It would be similar to Pirates of Penzance which is public domain but the Joe Papp revival version with specific revisions, interpolations and orchestrations is under copyright and must be licensed.

I believe that means the Gershwin family stops earning money from it, even tho Ludwig and others still profit. CORRECT ME IF WRONG.

Yes it does. We’ve hit zero hour for musical theatre going public domain; at least one major show per year will go public now. But some have caveats- Show Boat drops next year, but not the additional material added after the movie was released. Threepenny Opera is public domain in 2024, but not any of its extant English translations; you’d have to either do it in German or translate/adapt it yourself from scratch.

I'm hearing that is the plan for a Broadway transfer '23-24 season that being in the spring '24.
