This is either a sick joke or a sick fantasy. No evidence Wood's death was caused by "talking back" to her husband."
Geez. Lighten up. It’s been 40 years. It’s not “too soon” for a little dark joke. I guess my “what kind of wood doesn’t float?” joke will make your head explode.

I saw somebody claim it’ll be a crime if she’s not nominated for an Oscar without even seeing her full work. I think a lot of young theatre kids are clinging to somebody in their age range getting such a big break. Also the fact that she’s a got a great voice, that’s pretty much all it takes for a lot of millennial theatre fans to worship someone regardless of their actual performance."
I think you’re 100% correct and I completely agree. Let’s like have them take a step back and realize they haven’t even seen her performance yet, so saying “Oscar nominee (or winner) Rachel Zegler” is INCREDIBLY premature and I’m not even sure it’s merited. We have to wait and see which is impossible to do with this trailer. I definitely agree with everything you said!
I’ve read that Disney has given this film a theatrical release of 45 days before it goes to streaming, will it be available on their Disney+ service or another streaming platform?

Disney+. But I'll try to see it as many times in theaters as possible

It will be on HBO Max due to a Fox/HBO deal that expires toward the end of 2022.
I am beginning to see why so many on social media are claiming that the producers/studio are “hiding” the fact that this is a musical. The dancing is shown, but there is absolutely no singing in the majority of the trailers that have been released.
Only two have singing, and very briefly: The first teaser trailer that aired during the Oscars featured Rita Moreno singing “Somewhere” - last week’s official trailer showed Rachel Zeigler briefly singing “Tonight” and that’s about it.
I find it interesting that all the trailers seem to be leaning into the romantic plot of the story, which granted is probably what most people would expect from a Romeo and Juliet adaptation, but I feel like West Side Story encompasses a much larger social commentary, especially with what we've heard about the updated script.

Have you seen the official trailer? There are scenes that depict the social/racial conflict of the story. I believe one scene features the character of “Riff” expressing his dislike of the changes occurring in the neighborhood.

Yes there are some scenes, but they seem like they're here and gone in a blink of an eye and everything is still centered around the Tony/Maria relationship. I suppose it's to be expected since that's probably what people know most about West Side Story, but I just find the romance itself rather dull in the context of the other conflicts.

I picked up on that in the trailer. Looks like Maria is part of the department store’s cleaning staff and Andrea Burns looks like the head of the cleaners.
The trailer is gorgeous. I still don’t understand how people think the fact that this is a musical is being hidden.
The singing, while perhaps not prominent, IS evident. Also, how many non-musical films exist with choreographed ensemble dancing the likes of what we see in the WSS trailer?
Plus the title alone West Side Story is iconic, when you say the name of the movie they'll say: "Oh are you talking about that musical?". Even if someone hasn't seen it, pop culture and countless productions definitely has helped people know it's existence.
I agree that the trailer never hid the fact that it's a musical, I'm sure there have been other movie musicals in the past 20 years or so that had their trailers hide the genre it actually is.

That’s exactly the point people are bringing up. Why are they doing that? Why hide the genre it actually is.
It’s just an observation on my part.
Is it because the industry still feels that musical’s are a hard sell?
"
They aren’t doing that with this musical adaptation, though.

I was actually referring to the other movie musicals that MusicalMaster was referring to in his response to my message.
I myself don’t have an issue with any of the trailers that have been released so far. I think they’ve been great and have definitely heightened my anticipation for the film’s release.

That's right. I do remember the teaser trailer for the film adaptation of Into The Woods was very guilty of this. I think the reason why this happens sometimes is because marketers want to appeal to as many people as possible, so they could see the movie even if they like musicals or not. Sure it's annoying when it happens, but it is what it is.
