Some guy that sings.
fflagg...She neva wanted to go!
Somebody forced her down the Stoney End. . . .and I kinda liked it.
Ne-Yo is a rap/singer who has been rumored to be light in the loafers. Considering that he sang "Lover. . . " with 4 male dancers may confirm the fact.
Beyonce is "hot" at least for the next 5 minutes with the number 1 album. I don't know if Barbra has any real friends under the age of 50. :)
Well if he's light in the loafers, there's his connection to Babs.
Who honored Twyles?
The cast of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE?
I don't know if Barbra has any real friends under the age of 50. :)
fixed.
Seriously? Beyonce "for the next five minute"???
She has steadily been one of the top selling female artists since branching off from Destiny's Child. I would take her singing any day of the week over Idina screeching and gasping for air in my ear.
She may not have been the most obvious choice to honor Barabara, but I haven't heard one viable suggestion for someone else. Barbara is a solo artist. Its not like Fred Ebb or Chita Rivera whom have worked with countless artists over the years therefore giving a vast pool of talent to honor them from.

Barbra is a solo artist that has collaborated with many, many different artists over the years.
Face it, they didn't choose those collaborators because they are mostly age 50+. And that isn't the demographic they want for advertisers. So, they have COMPLETELY INAPPROPRIATE choices to honor her.
Does the success of crossover artists like Latifah and Beyonce owe something to Barbra's legendary career? Sure. But it's a big stretch. Big.
Beyonce, in particular, is more of a Diana Ross than a Barbra, anyway, with the actress and fashion angle.
Alicia Keyes would have been a better option.
She's often said what a huge influence Barbra was on growing up.
I think they should've had Fran Drescher or Mike Myers as Linda Richman.
They showed clips from the evening this morning and Beyonce' sounded good. Streisand said that this evening was about art and not politics. They showed footage of her during the program and it still looks like she is not wearing the medal. Every other honoree's medal is clearly seen. Hers is not.
I too wonder why they pick the people they do, but it is all about ratings. I can see the comparison between Beyonce' and Ross to an extent. The difference is that, so far(!), Beyonce' isn't a diva and has a much better voice. I wasn't a Beyonce' fan until her last CD when she would do all of these live shows and sing live. And well. A lot of her female peers in the business sound awful live or lip synch. But I am getting just a wee bit over this voice echoing thing she is now doing when she performs live on shows. I expect she did it at the beginning of the song at the Lincoln Center since Babs did it on the recording.
At least Idina can sing better than all of those put together
She can?
At least Idina can sing better than all of those put together
She can?
took the thoughts right out of my brain.
I'm not saying the three together are the perfect choices, far from it.
I just sympathize with how difficult it must have been to find out who to bring in. Yes, Beyonce and Ne-yo will bring in ratings BUT you have to realize something:
The Honors historically do not have someone of the same peer group as the performers because it comes off rather... awkward. If Barbara were being honored and they brought in Bette Midler it would lead people to think "Why isn't Bette being honored?" D'amboise/Chita for the Kander & Ebb tribute make sense because they wouldn't be considered "competition" for John and Fred in that "category."
The Kennedy Center Honors are of course not a "competition," but they specifically pick honorees annually from various art forms so it would strike as odd to have someone who is of the same age group and popularity to sing for Barbara. As a tribute, they should be someone who "looked up to" the honoree.

D'ambrois
He he :P
On Broadway. . .
Why didn't we know about Kelli O'Hara?
I enjoyed the tribute more than I thought I would. I was surprised by Beyonce's touching The Way We Were. Rumor is she went back and fixed her vocals in the studio, but I don't think that's true.
I wish they'd have done Evergreen, since Streisand wrote it and won the Oscar for it. And I'd have killed to have heard Latifah and someone else with a killer voice do "Enough is Enough".
Menzel came off the worst of the artists.

I too was impressed by Beyonce. The coming out of the floor was a bit much, and if she fixed the vocals, OK. In any case, I thought she sounded very nice. Not like blow the roof off the place good, but nice.
I think Idina overshot it or something. That last note looks like it hurt.
Did anyone else think "Thank God they didn't put Idina on the trap door"? I mean after her whole Wicked disaster.
Anywho, Idina was amazing as always and I believe my mother is now convinced that she should get me Idina tickets for my birthday. I rather enjoyed Beyonce's piece. I missed Ne-Yo's because I had to go to the bathroom.
Beyonce is not maybe a great singer, not in Broadway standards, but you guys are just obsessed with whatever small show and artistic show is open that you can't enjoy any musical fun. Beyonce is a pretty good singer, actress, and dancer. In music/movie standards, she probably is the closest thing we have to a triple threat. She is very talented and did Barbara proud.
By pop standards, Beyonce is a FANTASTIC singer.
