After being fired from THREE'S COMPANY for demanding equal pay to John Ritter, she pivoted to build a lucrative health and diet empire, and embraced sex positivity. She was a genuine trailblazer, and one might say she was an early influencer.
I was reminding myself of all the drama of Somers' Blonde in the Thunderbird, the one-woman show she performed on Broadway for just 9 performances in 2005 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The critics were deeply unkind, and she wasn't too friendly in return.
A blip on an interesting career.
RIP.

What an icon
I was a witness to her Broadway show. Such a crazy and fun time. RIP
This thread title is like 20 words too long (like all their thread titles) and makes a jab at a woman who just died of cancer. Disgusting and so expected.
Rest in Paradise, Beauty.
Agreed. The thread title is quite insensitive. The woman just died of breast cancer and instead of posting a condolence or just that she has passed, you bring up a negative period in her life.
uncageg, I’m a big fan of 3C and Somers, hence why I created the thread and highlighted obit and interview. But the Broadway show is the only thing that makes her relevant to a Broadway forum. If we were in a TV board or something else, that would be cause for a different header.

It was a douchey headline. It was also way too long.

And it is still an insensitive headline. Relevant or not. And yet you included her TV credit in a Broadway forum header. So...
I completely understood the reasoning behind the title as soon as I saw it, and am surprised others did not. I also prefer the word "died" to "passed", which only makes me think of gas. I say it's far more insensitive to engage in petty squabbling and pointscoring in what is supposed to be a place for memorializing and condolence. Oh well, that's just me.
RIP, Ms. Somers. You are in a better place now.

Sad news, indeed.
I will agree there were several better titles to use here.
Broadway Actress Suzanne Sommers Has Died
Suzanne Sommers, Star of Broadway's Blonde in the Thunderbird Has Died
or even a simple Suzanne Sommers Has Passed Away
Two of those clearly explain why the news is relevant to post here without drawing negative attention, the third works just fine as a title when the rest of the post illustrates the relevance.
The original production of Merrily We Roll Along was "ill fated", and it is not an insult to say so. It is not necessarily a reflection of quality. Just fate.
Also this board is not exactly the equivalent to the main headline of the front page of the New York Times, with 1900s Newsies roaring it all over the city.

Thread title too long? Y'all are really running out of things to bitch about.
Rest In Peace to Suzanne, who brought people a lot of laughs and clearly knew how to follow through when she wanted to achieve something.

Uh, no, she wasn't demanding equal pay to John Ritter. She was demanding more than anyone was getting--though she later said she knew if she got it, they'd get it, too.
And it is still an insensitive headline. Relevant or not. And yet you included her TV credit in a Broadway forum header. So...
Exactly. Doesn't make much sense does it? Nah, they are just trying to be disrespectful of a woman who just died of breast cancer. That she suffered with for 23 years. It's disgraceful.

Agree 100% Sutton. This was totally disrespectful, and title could have been handled a lot more sensitively than what was posted. You gave several examples of appropriate titles that could have been used. I have seen lots of threads created for people who have died that had absolutely nothing to do with Broadway so there really is no need to mention the Broadway show she was in years ago. She became famous in TV show "Three's Company" and that is the first thing people think of when her name is mentioned. RIP Ms. Somers.

You do understand that people object to you saying in headline her Broadway show was "Ill fated". You could have easily mentioned the show without adding that tidbit. You also could have posted this thread in the "Off Topic" section where RIP threads have been created for people who had nothing to do with Broadway in their life. Most people when they want to honor somebody when they die highlight their success in life, not point to something that was "ill fated". I really hope Ms. Somers had better fans than you.

It’s really sad and tragic what some members do on these threads for attention. Maybe find some human empathy.
Now, the last one standing is dear sweet Janet.
This morning when I learned that the beautiful, charming, funny and strong Suzanne Somers had passed, I uttered a soft "oh, no". You were a survivor, Suzanne, and you brought attention to a terrible disease. You were my senior by just two months, and you should be still with us. But in a way, you will always be with us.
And then I came to the BWW website to be immediately assaulted by the truly disgusting Subject Line. Suzanne Somers deserves better. I have asked BWW to change it to a simple "Suzanne Somers Has Passed".
If I saw a headline "Suzanne Somers has passed", my first thought would be "Passed what? An exam? A DUI test? Is she transgender?" A proper headline writer should know that it is always best to be concise and unequivocal. Not everybody is neurotypical and what is important is to be understood. I hope the moderators ignore such a silly request.

One of the very rare times I agree with one of your posts. Yes, Ms. Somers did deserve better.
Ms. Somers knew what was important in life and would not care less what this thread was called.
