If Sweeney was to be going on Broadway right now who would be a good Sweeney? I couldn't think of anyone! Suggestions?

I'm trying to think of new people who haven't played the role before!

Anthony Warlow!
Shuler Hensley would be amazing in both voice and character!!!!!!

NPH??? (I jest, but I would love an opportunity to see him on a b'way stage!)
I personally could see Raul Esparza (who has expressed interest in the role) as Sweeney before NPH, even though it seems like an odd fit for both of them. [Although I'd still like to see Raul].
In fact just thinking about it even more I can't see NPH in the role at all.

He probably wouldn't be well-received, but I would LOVE to see Denis o' Hare's take on the role- only because it would be different from any Sweeney we've ever seen.
I would pay WAY too much to see Raul Esparza play Sweeney Todd.
And I think Daphne Rubin-Vega would be a brilliant Mrs. Lovett (but that's just me).
I DID say it in jest. I don't think he'd be a good fit for it all; I just want to have the opportunity to see him on stage!
Oh I suppose :P.

Laura's a little too old...and too big a name for Johanna.
And Bernadette can't play Lovett in a couple years. Lovett shouldn't be able to get a discount on movie tickets.
Well there have been older Johannas e.g. Lisa Vroman.
Although embarrassingly, I don't really understand your Bernadette analogy :-/.

Bernadette would be very close to 65 (senior citizen age) by the time a 2011 revival opened. Patti was only 57 when her revival opened, and Angela was around 54 in the original.
Johanna is, in actuality, a nothing part and not the kind of role someone on the level of Laura Benanti would take on (except for a special concert version).
oh LOL. Yes, all sound reasons. Unless Bernadette is a particularly fit 65 year old.
Studio!Album or Concert!PLS. But the show certainly doesn't need any more attention..guhh...disappointing.

Raul would be awful in my opinon. There are alot of parts out there that are right for him, but Sweeney isn't one of them.
I sometimes wish the producers of the Doyle revival went with their first choice for Lovett: Cyndi Lauper. I think Cyndi would only work for the style of that production.

Are you joking? Raul as Sweeney would be disaster enough.

How would that be a disaster? I think they are perfect for the roles! Both have GREAT voices and are amazing actors.
