if they push this movie to 2024, i will be so devastated"
There's no reason to push this movie to 2024."
There is a strike happening with no end in sight that bars actors from promoting projects. They're absolutely thinking about pushing this, no matter what they tell Scott Sanders.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
i was hoping that the strike would come to an end by the time the cast started doing the press tour but it’s looking like the strike will last a very long time. it’s gonna be sad seeing this movie not being promoted by the cast if the strike continues

"[...] Warner Bros. is assessing potential new dates for the anticipated movie musical “The Color Purple,” which counts Oprah Winfrey as a producer [...] The possible date shuffling comes as the result of striking unions SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America, at war with show business producers for new contracts."
i talked to someone who watched a test screening last fall and he said that he loves the movie. he said that everyone did an amazing job and the songs are great. and this version is a lot more accurate to the book. there is a new song in the beginning of the movie that is a duet between young celie and young nettie. his complaint is that the song is too modern sounding compared to the other songs.

With several sources indicating that the strike should end by October, I hope then that this movie doesn't get delayed any more then it already has.

ACL, would LOVE to know which several sources give you confidence the strike will end by October. I along with all my out-of-work compatriots here in LA are dying to know.
They've literally not even re-entered negotiations and you're honestly putting out that you expect it to end by October? Studios want it to end in October because they think they'll actors and writers will have no money left, but jokes on them that they never had money to start to with...
The belief is that everyone's unemployment will end in October and that will push negotiations on the fast track and things will get resolved.

the choreographer of the movie fatima robinson and the director blitz bazawule recently did a panel for the film at the martha’s vineyard film festival where they showed sneak peeks of the movie and discussed it. they revealed a lot of intriguing information. it’s available on youtube.

Fwiw there are a handful of new songs in the film, although for the most part they seemed to fit into the score nicely. Can’t remember the Nettie/Celie duet though, so must not have been too memorable lol

i have been talking to someone on facebook who watched an early screening and this is what he said:
“i thought it was REALLY well done. Some of the musical numbers seemed kind of awkward, but most were really well executed. It was really smart to bring over Fantasia and Danielle from Broadway because they really know and understand their characters. But Fantasia…WOW. There’s a nomination in her future. Taraji does an incredible job too. Loved every moment. The only thing that didn’t work was how they worked the ending. But I imagine most of the audience gave feedback regarding how it was done so we’ll see how it changes upon releases.” he also said that the audience was pleasantly surprised by taraji’s vocals and the movie has very enchanting cinematography mixed with great sets/locations.
my excitement for this movie keeps increasing even more and after what he told me, i’m even more shook.
