Curious if they wanted her over Hudson or if they were looking to have her replace Hudson?
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Tichina Arnold also auditioned for the role and didn't get it - you can find her audition online. I think they just wanted a big name for Shug to offset Erivo/Brooks. (When Hudson didn't get a Tony nom she left the show and said that they used her for her celebrity)
someone who has saw a previous test screening saw a second screening of the movie and she said that everyone did a great job. she says that the men did great but the women will definitely get oscar noms. she feels that danielle brooks has a great chance of winning an oscar and taraji was a major surprise in this and that her role in this movie is much meatier than the 1985 film. and she stated that the musical numbers and visuals are fantastic. she also felt that the 1985 movie felt like celie’s movie and she brought shug and sofia along for the ride but this version felt like all three ladies were driving. she absolutely enjoyed the movie.
I love how BWW ran with the incorrect information on this thread that it was screening at Cannes, and published an article on it. You might want to take this down, guys:

Something about the snippet of "I'm Here" looks off to me. Fantasia was naturally physically expressive when she sang that song live, but here her movement looks inorganic and over-directed. I know it's only a second or two, but, out of context, it immediately read as cheesy to me. Her rendition of the song has always been unmatched, though, and, as far as I'm concerned, definitive.
Certainly not the John Doyle staging! It does have an epic feel to it. It appears to really open up the story for film. And the trailer even hints that this is a musical ...

It always amazes me the lengths that trailers for musicals will go to in order to hide the fact that it’s a musical. You saw ONE fragment of singing. That said, looks wonderful — cannot wait!!!
