A UK production whether it be London or a UK Tour was always going to happen as ATG is associate producers on the Broadway production and are producing the US tour.
The theatre in the Drury Lane area which the article mentions I think is referring to is the New London which is the home of War Horse and the original production of Cats.

I really can't see her going to London for a long run. She has two young children just starting school here

There are many West End actresses who would do the role justice... pointless for her to transfer with it tbh.
The thing is, besides being an utter toad of a human being, Riedel usually has the least knowledge of the topic in the room. He doesn't usually understand the content or approach of a show, and is always completely and unfailingly socially ignorant, which makes it really infuriating when Susan can't get a word in edgewise. A definitive mansplainer; it's always painful when he has female guests. I watch the show sporadically when I really want to see a guest, because it's the only theatre talkshow we have, but it would be so much better without this hateful clown in a dadcoat. LuPone's son was four when she moved to London for sunset boulevard and seven when she did the same for master class.
Baz generally is a very reliable source and it would be lovely to have Kelli in the West End, especially if this means that the my fair lady idiocy is not going to happen. However I agree with c011, there are a lot of west end actresses that could do it.

DOH: Speaking of Britain...you have so many fans here - can we hope for you to come over to London soon?
KOH: I hope so! Definitely - I would love to. We've talked about this - I'm ready and my family would love to. It hasn't been an option yet. I almost did something last year but it conflicted. Tell your friends - I would love to come!

Having seen this last night. The New London would not be an option for this magnificent production. You would need the depth of Drury Lane. Or maybe The Olivier. Another good option would be the Barbican.

Don't understand this. The production is terrific, but Ms. O'hara is no more than adequate (certainly not up to her brilliant performance in South Pacific). Anna in The King and I is after all an English role. The production should go to the West End, but with an English actress. Patricia Hodge would be perfect, or someone like her, just a little younger. (Gertrude Lawrence was 53 when she originated the role.)

If a Brit can play Fanny Brice than an American can play Anna. Kelli's british accent is very good. It doesn't matter if she isn't British.

It would probably land at the Barbican since Bart sher and the creative team is familiar with the space from South Pacific.

My point was not so much her Britishness (though that would help, since it will be played in London), but that she's not particularly good in the role. Wished they would have sent South Pacific over!
(And btw, Sheridan Smith is excellent as Fanny Brice, but I doubt that she would bring it to America.)

I strongly disagree with Eddie that Kelli is not good in this role. I believe she is an exquisite Anna who would be very well received in London as would the entire production. I hope that they get this wonderful opportunity. As far as her family is concerned, children can be tutored, they don't have to be in school to learn.
The only review of a show that matters is your own.

Yes, the woman that won the tony for this role isn't particularly good in it. That makes sense.

Sheridan Smith shouldn't bring Funny Girl to Broadway because she isn't particularly good in the role.

O'Hara is absolutely terrific in The King and I. I saw it in previews and knew the Tony was hers.

It's a whole lot easier (and not nearly as hard for the child) to travel when they are pre-school or grade school, then when they are tweens and teens, and their peer group of friends is so very important to their wellbeing. If she wants to make the trip and settle in there for a while, now is better than later.
And I thought she was just as wonderful in K&I as in SP. And yes, Sheridan Smith would do a really good job too.

DOH: I can imagine! I have to say I loved how Bartlett Sher staged "Western People Funny" and the way he turned that number around with the skirts.
KOH: He said we wouldn't do the number if there wasn't a reason to do it. A lot of people do cut it, but I think when he got the idea to do it in the way he does it's the right way for our production.
"Western People Funny" didn't, of course, make it into the film or the 1996 Donna Murphy -Lou Diamond Phillips revival. A few theatergoers, who apparently hadn't seen the new Lincoln Center production, were complaining about the acceptance in the show of, forgive me from going back to Vietnam War slogans, the acceptance of the "cultural Imperialism" under which the Western nations just assumed that the hoop skirts and leather shoes worn by them were the only garments in harmony with the universe.
Don't blame Oscar for omitting the number in its first run, He was aware of the smug superiority of the Westerners and makes the point humorously but pointedly in that scene.

I don't understand all the snark? To see a Tony winning leading lady in a role in such an incredible show should be a sure fire yes. This show will have some troubles transferring to a smaller backstage space, but it's a beautiful show and she deserves to go with it.
