THE LOST BOYS Original Broadway Cast Recording Thread

I’ve never seen the movie. I hope to watch it this weekend before listening to the Original Broadway Cast album. I’m in L.A., but I have friends that liked the show in New York.

Someone, early on here, asked if there was an Overture. I see there is not one…which, to me, means that there may be no stand-alone numbers that would warrant one. Sadly, overtures are mostly a thing of the past. Still, I’m really looking forward to listening to this once I’ve familiarized myself with the story.

i guess i could read the Wikipedia synopsis for the musical, but I’ll watch te movie first.

But hopefully it opens up some more eyes to this material and the national tour + future productions can thrive."

Speaking of this shows future, having more experience on broadway shows, what do the users of this message board think this musical will be like in a few years? Having an expensive production full of special effects, is it possible for it to have a future like "Turn Off the Dark" 's (show doesn't recoup and is not performed anymore. the worst case cenario)? Or is it possible to think positively about the future of this piece?

Show won't be running this time next year - and probably gone in winter. It's not making money now.

I think it has two or three years in it. Maybe more. I can see this attracting school trips. I thought the same thing about "The Outsiders" score as I do this one. (I feel that I would enjoy the score better in the theater) The Outsiders is still around and on tour. And these big shows don't make money right off the bat. I will say that the score for this show, as opposed to "The Outsiders", at least made me more interested in seeing it. JMO

The key to The Outsiders that The Lost Boys doesn’t have going for it is that high schoolers across America read The Outsiders every year, to this day. They tie the school trips to see it into their curriculum. No one outside some niche film classes are showing The Lost Boys in high school; kids have to come by it of their own accord.

How dare a gal post a few times. (gasp) YES. Excellent work detective / producer / publicist of TLB.

The numbers, extreme spending and weeklies don't add up. Truth. You're welcome.

Looked it up and saw that. And that is great. I still feel this show has the possibility to attract school groups. It may not be tied to a curriculum but it's available to watch. My younger nieces and nephews have seen it. There have been a number of shows with no books or movies tied to them that have had good school group sales. But we have gotten off topic.

"

Well the thread topic was the cast recording, so the discussion of the show's longevity isn't really.

Be adult enough to admit you’re not always right. You’re wrong, Lost Boys is making money. Be it slim, 1.2-1.4 million is more than their weekly run. Maybe take a week off from the boards and let us celebrate a new musical finding its audience as so many struggle. Try that.

Nah. though it MAY be making a TINY bit of money (most weeks not) -- it's original costs were so high - and current cast size - it's very expensive to both run and has holes deeper than the set to ever actually make money to climb out.

I am an adult - Ensemble 95 and 02 are just connected to the show. It'll be okay.

NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY. We are here to celebrate the cast album Sweaty Oracle. You’re right the show will be okay and is. You don’t have a life so you need something to talk about. Keep posting sour takes on one of the only successful new musicals as of late.

Ignore her everyone. It’s a waste of engagement. Let her talk to herself.

No. we're here to discuss the album - although you'd be happier celebrating it to help your show.

There have been plenty of successful shows as of late - ones I adore.

Once again, people have different opinions - but yours doesn't like mine for whatever reason. And a sweaty oracle I am not (what does that even mean?). It's not nice to call people names or refer to them as sweaty. stop hating on my opinion when it doesn't meet yours. move on.

back to the album...

Shoshana announced a two week break for her tour. She’ll be out of TLB in September and October. Could we expect to see Caissie Levy filling in? Would make me so happy!

While Caissie would be so fun to see, I truly hope they give the understudy a chance to shine instead! Understudies work so hard to be ready at any moment to go on for a role, it's nice when they get the chance to settle in a little and have scheduled dates ahead of time so their friends and family can come see them too.

I was thinking Pink. They need the sales why not and it’s her fav show right now it would be a nice introduction.

Pink won't do it. (and it's not her favorite show right now) She has other plans.

I could see Caissie doing it though - she knows it. But the understudy (from The View) will most likely go on for those two weeks. Bean isn't enough of a draw to worry with her absence.
