Casting Latifah and Blige reeks of sheer laziness! I don't see why we need a female wizard anyway.

I'm really not understanding how this is lazy.

Apparently, Queen B passed on the role twice. http://www.ew.com/article/2015/07/30/beyonce-wiz
I would like Beyonce a lot more if it weren't for that select group of insane fans who literally call her the Lord. I'm not a major fan of her genre, anyway...I would only hope she'd be in The Wiz because it would get more non-thespians to watch.

Three-Time Tony Nominee David Alan Grier Will Play 'The Lion'!
This cast is star studded for sure! I hope one of the major players ends up a being a Broadway performer. Joshua Henry, where you at?!

You mean like somebody who has five Broadway credits and three Tony Award nominations to their name?
^Calm yourself. Grier is an incredible stage actor, something I would never deny. I meant someone who is primarily a stage actor and is not famous for his work in other forms of media.
I wanted James Monroe Iglehart to be the Lion so bad :/

I don't see anyone but Audra as Glinda :/ How can they not offer it to her?
He is a "Grier-ate" choice! (Sorry, I guess I've morphed into Tony the Tiger.) I'm in love with this cast and can't wait to hear who they picked for Dorothy! If it's someone from the open casting calls, she is gonna be one lucky chick.

I'm actually getting more excited for this with each bit of casting. We'll see how tomorrow goes.
What is everyone thinking they'll do? Find a COMPLETE unknown in the industry or a Broadway actress that's an "unknown" to the general public?
I saw David Alan Grier play the Wiz in the La Jolla Playhouse production and I actually really loved his interpretation. I can't really picture him as the Lion after seeing him as the Wiz, but I'm staying open minded.
I still want Tituss Burgess to be in this so badly!
I heard rumors of Corbin Blue was pretty much locked in for the Scarecrow. Anyone know anything?

I think it would be awesome to see a complete unknown get a big break like this! I guess we'll see tomorrow.
So, after all that time, it's not a newcomer....it's Shanice Williams

Errr.... She's not new. She is 42-years-old and had a couple of R&B hits in the early 1990s.

If people thought Diana Ross was too old for Dorothy, I can't wait to read their reaction on a 42-year-old R&B singer from the early 1990s being cast...

I think it might be a different person with the same name... that does not look like the gal who was on The Today Show. Though I may be wrong
