Well, thank the good lord they changed the kids clothes, etc. in the 3rd Harry Potter film. The first two sucked big ole cow udders. Those first two films were really bad. Like diarrhea on an airplane bad. I simply refuse to watch the first one. Refuse!
You ask what lion has dreads? What lion stands on two feet and sings and dances down the road, honey??? Release your negativity and let yourself shine, shine, shine.
The movie proved that The Wiz doesn't hold up too well when you stray too far from the original Broadway text. I was kind of hoping they would actually stage something closer to the original libretto with maybe a few updated jokes from Harvey Fierstein and show audiences only familiar with the film how brilliant the original was. With Peter Pan, they didn't trust the material and felt the need to throw in all kinds of extra text and songs and they ended up with a mess of ideas that never came together to form a cohesive show. This all sounds like more of the same.

Probably a nod to the fact that the original production played at the Majestic.
Bob, regarding the HP movies I was referring to the fact that in the books they wore robes. That was a drastic change.
And both lions in The Wizard of Oz and The Wiz stood on two feet sang and danced down the road. Honey. And neither had dreads.
I hear ya! I just was so enchanted by the books before the films and first two films disappointed me unto no end. NO END

Fatima Robinson is an incredible choreographer. her resume speaks for itself. she is very creative and her choreography is always fresh. her first job was choreographing the remember the time video from Michael Jackson. the choreography for that video was very innovative and ahead of it's time. she is a very strong choreographer so she will do a fantastic job with the choreography.

Goodness me, it is so easy to forget just how tiny Mills is. Yes, the original production played at the Majestic.
As far as dreads on the Lion, I don't think "dreads on the. Lion" are where anyone's concerns rest. And yes, they have freely hinted at making significant changes to the libretto. Es, oz is a fantasy realm, but the score transcends Oz.. It also includes Kansas... And fantasy only works when you establish rules for the fantasy world to abide by, otherwise it is a free for all.
Yes, Fatima has an impressive resume. No one is challenging that or contradicting. No one is saying that she will be terrible. All anyone is saying is that no one harps seen her choreograph a book musical and no one has seen her work here, so it is an open ended question as to what her work will be.
Again, from the ground up, THE WIZ was conceived to reflect 1975 urban black culture. You can not change that without SIGNIFICANTLY altering the entire fabric of the piece.

Looks like they will be borrowing at least one other change from the film, the use of "You Can't Win" for the Scarecrow's song...

Just because the show has a talented creative team, doesn't mean the show will be amazing by default. What matters is what the vision is because that's what everybody involved will be working towards. If the vision is to create a hip, quirky, Dorothy doing the whip retelling of "The Wiz," it doesn't matter if the creative team is amazing. It all comes back to the vision, and so far, it's looking kinda iffy.

It is very modern but they are staying true to the original broadway production.

This is just like when Jan wanted a traditional wedding dress and Marcia wanted a modern wedding dress.

THE WIZ can not be both very modern yet true to the original, unless we are in 1975.

No they won't. One of the choreographers posted a video of elijah Kelley and the crows practicing born on the day before yesterday. The video got deleted. They are doing the Broadway musical, not the movie.

"Which is it? Born on the Day Before Yesterday or You Can't Win? or both? Or are they trying out both songs to see which they feel works better?
