But DOUBT did well at the Tonys last year. 4 wins. DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS only won 1 Tony last year. This is a chance to give it more recognition and longevity beyond Norbert's stay with the show.

Do you think there's ANY way Mister Wilson will get recognized for his hysterical performance as "Paul Bratter" in the revival of Barefoot?

Whoever gets it, I hope it is for the best performance and not because the show's numbers are down, or the show didnt get enough Tony's the year they were nominated...
-the performance categories have 5 nominees
-Cyndi Lauper is featured, not leading
Eileen Atkins should win the Tony. Not only is she brilliant, but DOUBT's numbers aren't good. The award would atleast give them a small, temporary boost at the box office.
Now there is a reason to give someone a Tony! It will help these poor struggling people at the B.O.?
So then: Best Play-Well
Best Revival-Barefoot In The Park
Best Musical-Hot Feet
Best Musical Revival-Sweeney Todd.
Case closed!
"Replacement:
Fierstein
Pryce
Atkins "
Is Ashley Brown not a contender? I haven't seen her, but from all of the recent Mary Poppins hype, she might be on the minds of some voters.
a few bright spots but a dreadful season over-all, imo.
Leen, I can always count on you to pick apart something I write, but that's not what I meant at all. I meant, Atkins deserves the award for her brilliant performance (that no replacement this year as equaled or topped), then I should have said PLUS, it would give the box office a boost. I am totally opposed to giving out awards just for "money reasons."
Totally agree, Garland Grrrl. This season was pretty pathetic...
Actually, Strap, I didn't even notice who wrote that comment, believe it or not. But it did seem as though you were implying that a Tony should be given to boost the BO to a deserving show.
PS I believe that is the first time anyone has ever referred to me as "Leen!" I kinda like it!

I'm sort of shocked everyone is saying Kron will get an acting nod. I mean, she's not bad in the show -- but come on. There were quite a few finer performances than hers this season in Broadway plays.
What time will they be annouced on Tuesday?
12:00 noon???
/what time will they be online?
Usually sometime in the morning.

Best Actor Musical:
Michael Cerveris
John Lloyd Young
Harry Connick
Stephen Lynch
Bob Martin
So far everyone has been forgetting about Bob Martin. He could be the spoiler for the Cerveris/Young race if the Tonys want to go all cutesy - look, we gave Best Actor in a Musical to a guy who doesn't sing a note, aren't we clever? Blech. They should give it to the best actor in a musical, and that would be...JLY, of course.
Drowsy could also spoiler the Jersey Boys win for Best Musical if Tony voters still can't shove aside their unfair bias against jukebox musicals. To give it to Drowsy just because it's completely original would be so transparent. Don't get me wrong, I thought Drowsy was delightful, but JB is the critical and box office hit of the season.
Jersey Boys better win Best Book. Everyone agrees the book is what makes it set the bar for jukebox musicals down the line.
Interesting to see if they nominate Julia. Her reviews were so poor it would look like such obvious ass kissing. I'd love to see Cynthia Nixon win. She's deserved a Tony ever since the Hurlyburly/The Real Thing stunt when she was barely 18 years old.
Gosh i hope Woman In White or Tarzan get nominated over Wedding Singer for best musical they might not be flawless shows but there sure alot better than Wedding Singer!
Best Musical
The Color Purple
The Drowsy Chaperone
Jersey Boys
Woman In White or Tarzan (sadly sound like it could go to Wedding Singer)

Seriously, how can THE COLOR PURPLE not win?
Well...
I have a feeling it is going to be a very good year for JERSEY BOYS...the show and the actors...

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but it is regarding a Tony winner. Anyone know what Kristin Caskey (one of producers of "Thoroughly Modern Millie") is up to at the moment? Thanks.
I wish Christian Hoff, Daniel Reichard, and J. Robert Spencer could all score best supporting actor noms, but we know one will get shut out... poor J. Robert Spencer They all deserve it. But in my opinion, Christian Hoff deserves to win hands down. Even though I ADORED Danny Burstein. He best be nominated too.
Wedding Singer is highly superior to Tarzan and Woman in White in my opinion. If Tarzan is nominated for anything, I will be disgusted. That said, of course Wedding Singer won't and shouldn't win in any category- but they deserve the nom over those two.
ddtruit- i 100% agree with you on the Best Actor race
"If Tarzan is nominated for anything, I will be disgusted."
AMEN TO THAT!
Well, I haven't seen Tarzan, but the fact that The Lion King won a Tony for best musical is SAD!

Why?
TLK was pretty innovative. I think Ragtime should have won the Tony...but TLK is far above Tarzan in every way.
The Wedding Singer is likely absolutely a contender for Best Score. My guess is that the most serious contenders are all open right now (Lloyd-Webber isn't even a lock for a nom, I think):
Wedding Singer
The Color Purple
The Drowsy Chaperone
Tarzen (Remember Aida?)
Yes, it most definitely is. To compare THE LION KING and TARZAN is like comparing SWEENEY TODD to BROOKLYN, as far as Disney shows are concerned.
I echo the sentiment that if TARZAN is nominated for anything, I will be DISGUSTED. It will be a truly pitiful event.
