Posted: 12/19/12 at 3:27pmAccording to the cast list announced, Taylor will be in Matilda. It's not going up for a while and maybe Bare will be closed by then, but if not, that means there will be an opening. Any dream Peters?

How is he still getting work? His performance in bare was one of the most grating I have ever sat through. Off-key notes, and horrendous acting.
Anyone else is a dream Peter.
Personally I would like Alex Wyse to take over the role.

Posted: 12/19/12 at 4:56pmI agree, no doubt that he'll have a longer run (and substantially better pay) with Matilda.

Posted: 12/19/12 at 5:42pmSeriously, how is he still getting work?? Pretty sure he was remarked as tone-deaf in some of the harsher reviews.

ALEX WYSE has my vote.
Sorry for the caps, I just got excited.

Posted: 12/19/12 at 8:09pmI saw him in the Joe Iconis Christmas show at 54 Below and he was underwhelming. Who is he playing in Matilda? Aren't the kids in the show pretty darn young? He doesn't look that young...?

RippedMan - In London, some of the older members of the ensemble play children alongside the younger kids, like in this song:

Posted: 12/19/12 at 11:53pmThose kids are young though. Taylor is like a 20-something year old?

Posted: 12/20/12 at 12:02amI saw him tonight. Wow. Talk about tone deaf and miscast!

Did you watch the whole video RippedMan? Towards the end, adults dressed like the kids come out and finish the song with them. They do the same thing in the middle of this song as well. http://youtu.be/u4zVYd4ir9E
Also, they didn't mention who is playing Matilda's older brother. I could see Taylor playing him. I'm guessing that's who he's playing, or he's an understudy/swing.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 12:14amTaylor is indeed playing Matilda's older brother.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 12:40amThat would work then, as Michael really doesn't sing at all.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 12:40amOh okay cool. I've no problem with that then. I was like, that's going to look really weird .

I feel like I'm the only one who saw a performance of bare where Taylor wasn't off-pitch at all... And I'm not tone deaf, either

Posted: 12/20/12 at 11:21amI liked Taylor too. His singing was fine, but it didn't matter -- he is a funny, sensitive actor.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 11:22amYeah, his singing didn't really matter. He was only the lead in a musical.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 12:00pmI thought his acting was far worse than his singing.

Posted: 12/20/12 at 4:00pmHis acting seemed pretty spot-on for the way he chose to play Peter. Not saying I like this new awkward/nerdy Peter, but I thought he played it off pretty well. I don't know, maybe it looked different past the front row. And I wouldn't say I thought his singing was good, necessarily, but he fulfilled all of the requirements for the role at my performance, at least.

The performance I sat through half of featured some really tone-deaf singing from Mr. Trensch. I thought he was just having an off day, but it seems to be a pretty serious problem. Does he not have to sing in MATILDA?
Not that I care about MATILDA, it looks like HARRY POTTER AND THE BITCH OF LIVING.

@THDavis - no you were not the only one - I saw him in previews on Dec 3 and he was on key all night. Did I think he had the strongest voice...no, but it weirdly seemed to fit with this version of Peter. There were some moments that I felt like he was behind the music and sometimes rushed, but I really felt as if a lot of that was the lyric changes and trying to shove too many words in a line when it didn't fit. He has a quirkiness about him that I can see would turn off a lot of people, however I found it endearing and actually drew me into his character more. I found him very funny.
Jordan - I understand your remark about only be a lead in a musical and agree in theory, but since the updated concept of this show was to do more book work for the characters and move away from the pop opera venue, to me it made the singing only half of it. (but you might not have liked his acting either)

Posted: 12/23/12 at 12:25amI think Taylor may just be mis-cast in BARE. His Moritz in SPRING AWAKENING remains one of my favorite takes on the role.
