Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

Now that she's the newest darling of Prime Time...

Did anyone see her performance as Sally Bowles?I seem to remember her reviews being less then stellar, but I could easily be confusing her with one of the other 89 women who took on the role.

She was the orginate in the tour right and speaking of less than stellar reviews didn't Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary McCormack or get reviews similar to Teri's on bway?

Yup, she and Norbert started the tour. From the clips I've seen, she seemed to have the right sort of personality for Sally.

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

I saw Teri and Norbert in Cabaret twice back in the day. It was the first big professional show I saw.

I thought Teri was pretty great. She wasn't a stellar singer but Sally isnt really supposed to be fabulous. Her "Maybe this Time" brought me to tears both times I saw it. Norbert's curtain speech on Teri's last show also brought me to tears.

Oh, she's a good dancer too.

And even at 16, I liked Norbert's ass. re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

I could have seen her in L.A. but thought, "Couldn't they have gotten a real star to do the part?" Now I kick myself, because she is quite wonderful on Desperate Housewives, besides seeming to be a genuinely nice person, which is so unusual in Hollywood. (See the current issue of Vanity Fair to see what I mean.) I'm sorry Teri for having doubted you, and for missing you (and pre-stardom Norbert). Dumb of me!

I saw her & Norbert in Washington DC. I wasn't thrilled by her performance, but she was better han I thought she'd be. Norbert was WONDERFUL!!!!

I did enjoy her "Maybe This Time" & acting. Her voice was okay--nothing amazing. Pretty good for stunt casting.

I saw her in the Los Angeles production. She was good, not great.

does anyone have pictures of Teri Hatcher or Norbert Leo Butz in their respective roles from this leg of the tour?

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

Oh and to add to my Teri in Cabaret story.

Well, let me preface by saying I was a 16 year old dork. Now I'm a 22 year old dork.

So I was excited to see Teri cause I looooved her in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. My friends and I showed up and her understudy was on. We were very upset and I kinda cried. The House Manager (who was named Sean and was GREAT) was all flustered and said he couldnt handle girls crying. He went in his office and made some calls. He assured us that Teri would be in that evening's performance and said he had gotten us tickets for the box seats that night. We were psyched. We show up at the theater that night and Sean had apparently told someone who told Teri about us crying and stuff. She requested that they move us to the front, center table. And she waved to us during Don't Tell Mama.

And that was my first big theatrical experience.

See why I'm still a dork? :)

Great story! That's exactly what I mean about her seeming to be a genuinely nice person. Read Vanity Fair to compare Teri and Marcia Cross, who comes across as a real uberb*tch diva next to Teri, who carries her stardom like a true lady.

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

I saw her as Sally and Norbert Leo Butz as the MC. Since it was my fist theatre experiance that I could remember, I was like 7 or something(I saw phantom when I was 4 but didnt remember much) and I loved her in the role. I liked her better than Natasha Richardson. However Norbert stole the whole show.

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

Sorry to thread-jack a bit, but since Natasha Richardson's interpretation of Sally Bowles was as a mediocre singer, when the production team cast replacements for Broadway and the tour did they still want Sally Bowles to sing well or badly? I saw the tour understudy, and I thought her voice was alright (it really was Norbert's show), so I don't know how Richardson's replacements have been directed to perform.

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

i saw it in la and in boston. terry was out the night i saw it in boston. cabaret is one of my favorite shows, but i thought terry was weak in the role. although after seeing her understudy i did miss terry in the role. terry wasn't aweful by any means... she just didn't command the stage as is sometimes the case with tv/ movie "stars".

RE: "...since Natasha Richardson's interpretation of Sally Bowles was as a mediocre singer, when the production team cast replacements for Broadway and the tour did they still want Sally Bowles to sing well or badly?"

Isn't that the point...that Sally is a mediocre singer? That's probably the only flaw of the otherwise perfect movie...if Sally was as talented as Liza, she never would have been performing in that seedy club.

re: Teri Hatcher in CABARET?

Yes, but some subsequent replacements have been musical theatre performers who CAN sing. The understudy I saw certainly could. Does anyone know if the replacements were asked NOT to sing well?
