Okay.. I just won this CD on Ebay for $39 dollars. I really hope it's worth it.

Who owns this Cast Recording? Beacause I read the orchestrations were really reworked. Now were they just redone for the Cast Recording - or even for the production? I really hope the new sound isn't bad - because $39 dollars later - I'm really excited for this - and I don't wanna be dissapointed. Plus I love Bebe - so I'm excited to hear her Nickie. and definetly excited to hear Debbie's Charity.
Also I see that "I'm The Bravest Individual" is totally different. is it any good?

So who owns this? Is it good even with the new orchestrations?

I haven't listened to it in years.

Debbie Allen isn't much of a singer, but Bebe and Michael Rupert were great. Overall, it's all right. If you are a big SWEET CHARITY fan, you will love it.

Debbie Allen is the vocally strongest Charity on record although in my opinion somewhat inappropriate. The album is definitely an interesting listen and a necessary collectable <|:)

Don't want to bum you out ljay but in case any one else is interested in this recording since there's renewed interest in the score, it's being re-released by DRG. I highly recommend to everyone to check the "upcoming releases" (scroll down to the very end) at Talkin'Broadway's site before paying big bucks at eBay or Amazon. Countless times I've seen show CD'S selling for big bucks that are being re-released in the near future. Of course if time is of the essence...one pays what they choose to pay.

I think im feeling sick. Realllllllly sick.

But they DON'T give you a release date - who knows if this is really going through.

Please someone make feel better for putting out $39 dollars on this CD. I guess it will be cool to have the original release? Which is a rare collectable nowadays.

Oh God - I feel sick.

And I don't know if I would really call this an obscene price, because if Colony was to have this - it would probally be tripple the money.

I'm sorry ljay...I really am. I've been there myself. However, possibly your CD WILL be a collectible because it's one of the very few Original Broadway Cast recordings that has the word SOUNDTRACK printed on the spine as FrontRowCenter can concur...:) I imagine DRG will exclude that dreadful word if and when they re-release it.

I'll wait for the newest recording with Christina.

Demitri - thanx for your kind words!

So these Charity Revival CD's were really originally printed with SOUNDTRACK on the spine? Wow. Maybe mine will have it.

That's a good way to look at it. Hindsight is always 20-20, so I wouldn't spend time on regret it. I know that you are a big fan of the show, and will garner much enjoyment from the cast recording. And it isn't really an obscene price at all. I've seen things go for much, much higher (A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC w/Judi Dench and THE CAPEMAN being two examples).

I had to say something to make your tummy feel better...:) And yes I'm sure yours will say SOUNDTRACK for I don't believe EMI ever corrected the flaw.

I'm sorry, but this recording is a major dissapointment. The orchestrations sound like midi files and it's only 45 minutes.

Well SC does not have many songs - and without the dialogue in the songs - ofcourse the album would be very short. The Original Cast Album for Charity is very short - the reissue just feels so long because it has SOOO many bonus features.

Anyway - I'm a big fan of Charity's score, and Bebe Neuwirth - So I'm trying to stay excited for this item. Plus I think it will be very interested to hear a new interpretation of this score. I'm sure the new Revival recording comming out with Christina Applegate will be better - but I'm still excited for the Allen version.

Was the 1986 Revival a Broadway hit?

It was until Allen left - The wonderful Ann Reinking took over the role, and sadly the show took a turn for the worse - but I don't blame that on Ann.

It lasted 369 performances. Was nominated for 5 Tonys. Won 4 including Best Revival, and Bebe Neuwirth for Featured Actress.

You should try to find the london cast recording. Juliet Prowse is fantastic and there's a bunch of extra dance music throughout.

"...possibly your CD WILL be a collectible because it's one of the very few Original Broadway Cast recordings that has the word SOUNDTRACK printed on the spine as FrontRowCenter can concur...:)"

Indeed! On my copy I covered up the incorrect on teh spine of the J-card word with correction tape! (BTW, Decca has issued the soundtrack on CD. On my first trip to NYC in 1977 there were stacks and stacks of copies of the LP at Sam Goody's for 69 cents each!!)

"I imagine DRG will exclude that dreadful word if and when they re-release it."

They better! Or they will be getting a nasty letter from me.

LOL

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Debbie Allen rocks. Too bad she isn't performing anymore.

Debbie Allen was a wonderful Charity. Her vocals and dancing were very strong. I saw both Allen and Reinking do this version of Sweet Charity.

I have this CD , also won it on ebay. I think i paid $25. By the way, the French Cast recording is also expected to be re-released.

I have this recording. I purchased it when it was originally released. I also saw Debbie Allen in the show. It was a wonderful show and it was the very first time seeing it live, I was only familiar with the movie up until then.

This production used the original 1966 arrangements. There were some changes to some songs, including the title number. They dropped the original 1966 version of the song and replaced it with the 1969 movie version.

The recording differed from what was heard in the theatre. For some reason the orchestrations were synthesized. "Rich Man's Frug" was not recorded to completion on the CD and the arrangements to "Rhythm of Life" were altered. The recording doesn't do the production justice beacause of this. Debbie Allen is vocally one of the strongest Charitys I have seen or heard. Bebe Neuwirth is good as "Nickie" as are Alison Williams as "Helene" and Michael Rupert as "Oscar".

Although it isn't perfect I do like this recording.

Was the funkier version of "Im The Bravest Individual" used in the production? or whas that just for the CD?

Does the CD still sound like an orchestra is playing the music? Because I don't want it to sound really fake.

"The bravest Individual" is a little funkier. The "orchestra" is very electronic on the recording. It doesn't sound like a theatre orchestra at all.
