Bernadette Peters - she hosted before and did a great job.

I was just about to mention Chenowith's Emmy nomination. That should erase her "brilliant" work in "Bewitched." Though I enjoy Chenowith in "Pushing Daisies," and think she's kind of lovely to watch, I kind of think she's a one-trick-pony.
Having said that, a "big name" as a host for the Tony's hasn't done anything for the telecast since Rosie O'Donnell hosted it a decade ago. They need to stop getting viewers by having a big name host and having people like Mary J. Blige perform classic tunes. It is what it is; The Tony Awards aren't exactly a crowd pleaser, in terms of millions and millions of voters. It won't be long before the telecast is moved to PBS.

I would love Neil Patrick Harris to host! OMG love him!

Seth Rudetsky because he's AhMAzing!!!
Kristin Chenoweth has become well known enough among the mainstream non-Broadway audience to attract some viewers. Unilike Rosie or Whoopi she doesn't "turn anyone off". And she adds the benefit of being a Broadway performer who also is a Tony winner. I honestly think one of the main goals of the show is to attract more people to come to New York and see Broadway shows. She helps provide that goal.
Julie White would be a fantastic host, but she is not mainstream or well known enough to provide those other benefits.
For sheer fun, Mary and Jackie could co-host (maybe as Muses) and the show would be a riot!
Mindy is currently on oxygen, in a coma. Nobody knows if she's going to survive.
Nathan Lane
Kristin has a Primetime Emmy nomination this season. As much as we'd like to belittle her success outside of Broadway, she is making a name for herself. I don't know if its Host-worthy, but paired with NPH (who is a CBS star so completely bookable) they'd be great hosts.
Aside from a host (which we should be thankful to have after not having one 2 years ago) I want:
A big opening number
A funny/insightful Host w. an opening monologue
And the awards to take place in a Broadway theater rather than RCMH.
EDIT:
And scenes from the nominated plays.

I definitely like the idea of Neil Patrick Harris and Kristin Chenoweth co-hosting. They'd be a really charming, funny duo in my head. Actually...
It would be kinda cool if somebody created an original movie musical around them.
Seth Rudetsky would be a great host . . . not that it will ever happen.
And speaking of things that will never happen, for some reason, when Bernadette was mentioned, I suddenly pictured Patti LuPone hosting. With Mandy Patinkin.

...Or cancelled.
How about a good opening number. Remember in 2004 with Hugh and all the ensembles? Those were the good old days.
I'd love to see Michael Cerveris and Julie White host, but there's no way that would happen.
I think Martin Short could be a great host.
Wanna Be, I wasn't attempting to crap on Chenoweth; just doing what you always do when someone suggests an actor/actress for a part in a play or movie: "Not big enough! America doesn't know them!"
Chenoweth deservedly got nominated for her "West Wing" stint, but she's still a name nobody knows. Anyone who thinks that non-Broadway people are KC fans is deluded, I would wager "West Wing" fans don't even know her actual name.
For those who say the TONYs have never done great with a "name" host, so what have they got to lose?: if the ratings will get that low with a name like Whoopi or Rosie or Hugh Jackman, just how imagine how low they'd sink with a name that just appealed to the theatre crowd.
(As for Rosie or Whoopi "turning people off," I'm sorry, but anyone who would not watch JUST because Rosie or Whoopi is hosting, is not someone who would ever watch a largely musical-theatre-devoted awards show anyway)

does this toodarnhot lady make fun of rent and jonathan larson all the time?
I always thought TDH was male. Either way, it's better to take everything s/he says with the biggest pinch of salt you can muster. Or just ignore it if you're not very good at drawing your own interpretations from other people's words.

thank you weez. I don't know it TDH is a male or female i was just assuming.
I am voting for Kristin Chenoweth too!! Not just because I am a fan but I think that she can really appeal to a lot of people. Sure some people find her to be annoying but I bet they still smile from time to time when they see her on screen!
I thought she did a great job at the "2007" (not 2006) Drama Desk Awards I thought she was funny and charming (except the whole awkward question period?) She is just so adorable though! and she can SING!! :)
But pair her with NPH I think they would really balance each other out and create a great chemistry that would appeal to a lot of people (broadway fans and not)

TDH is a male. He is also a father, a vocal coach, friend of Sondheim.....and so much more.
I second Mindy from the [tos] show. Oh wait. She's dead. Ooops. "Get outta here, Cheyenne Jackson!!!!!"
